Well, I guess he has been reading Erwin too. I think that lens tests, if one wants them to be useful must be done as rigorously as possible, and Erwin spends a lot of time in the Zeiss lens testing laboratory and in the Leica facility.

I like taking pictures of Dogs because they don't object to being photographed - and they don't ask for prints.

Coming back to the lens, you cannot go wrong with it! It's just amazing and one of Leicas absolutely best lenses in terms of sharpness, CA and contrast. I bought mine for the M8 and just it extensively in this combination. Since I bought the M (240), I have used it less, but mostly because I now have 2 small children and a lot less time to take pictures other than indoor of the two and there my Lux 35 and 50 are better suited :). Here is an macro example (using OUFRO):

Unfortunately my sensor was very dirty at this time (was travelling so no way to clean it :( )

Is it any good?  You betcha!

Of course, it's performance is ultimately up to the photographer.

Thanks for your input.

What would be a decent price for a second hand lens in pristine (10/10) condition?

Regarding the original question, can anyone name a modern Leica lens which is NOT good?

Really? Isn't that too low for an absolutely mint condition?

I bought one at KEH for 1200USD.  It seems EXC +++ except for a tiny spot of missing paint on the hood.  However, they were having some sort of flash sale at the time.

I've seen it for sale here in Sweden for about 12000sek, so that was my indication. It's not very popular, most people prefer the Super-Elmar 21.

I would highly recommend the Elmar-M 24/3.8 The current going price for used copies are around $1500-1700.

I have 21 Sem and 28 cron. Always admired the 24 SEM, but don't really need it. I shoot M9 where 28 cron really sings. But many love the 24 SEM that's for sure.

The 24mm / 3.8 is as good as it gets, if you are looking for technical perfection. Check out the MTF graphs is you are in doubt.

But that is on a cropped sensor, so the edges are missing.

Let's start with the premise that ALL Leica lenses are good, within their production  timeframe. Just because the WWW doesn't carry a ton of accolades, has nothing to do with the lens. I suggest you start by reading knowledgable resources such as Puts for some details. I owned one for a couple of years sfter lusting for it, but found that for my style of work, it was too wide to justify keeping it. With some reluctance, because it was so good, I sold it when I needed some cash for a family emergency.

If you like sharp right into the corners at 3.8, nice Leica colors, little to no distortion, you will like it.  If you want a lens for near darkness, pick something else.

I really like the 24 elmar. It is a. It of getting used having coverage beyond the viewfinder, but the lens is a bargain and very light.

At the time of writing this post, Leica dealer in Sheffield has two examples. Both are like mint.
