stuny Posted December 30, 2016 Share #1 Posted December 30, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just south of Kyoto is the Fushima Inari Shrine, a Shinto shrine. Behind the beautiful buildings, along the paths that wind up the 233 meter mountain, are a signature feature of Shinto shrines - Tori gates. Thousands of them! Donors (most of whom are business owners) erect the gates there with their orange painted, plain sides facing down the mountain, and their reverse sides inscribed with information about the donors. Here are a few of the thousands of gates. Welcome, dear visitor! Shane Guthrie Posted December 31, 2016 Share #3 Posted December 31, 2016 I'd find it tricky to photograph. There's movement along the angled posts and curved path, making my eye jump all over the place. Has the orange fooled the camera's white balance, and made the path more blue than it would be otherwise? I particularly like looking at the second one, as the portrait orientation gives the feeling of tall posts and a narrow walkway.
stuny Posted December 31, 2016 Author Share #4 Posted December 31, 2016 Andy, Steve & Michael - Thank you. Shane - Thank you, and you could be correct regarding the blue cast and its source.
Iduna Posted January 2, 2017 Share #5 Posted January 2, 2017 Stuart, a fine subtle series. I prefer the first 2 for one reason: your eye can follow the pathway being undisturbed as being almost in meditation.
