leetmode Posted December 30, 2016 Share #1 Posted December 30, 2016 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Honestly, I can't believe there are no dedicated L-plates, or any regular plates, for our cameras this long after release. Is the market really that small? Do manufactures not take this camera seriously?? Anyway, I'm curious to know what solutions you guys have found, I'm desperately looking for something but not sure which to go with. Advertisement Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 Hi leetmode, Take a look here Arca swiss L-Plate. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Leica Guy Posted December 30, 2016 Share #2 Posted December 30, 2016 I also like "L" plates and have used them for many years on many of my cameras. My Canon 5D3 would seem ill equipped without one. I contacted Really Right Stuff. No joy. No plans to make one for the Q. I purchased a cheap Arca-Swiss plate on eBay. DP-70. It's works well. Cheap. My RRS ball head allows moving the camera vertical so it is good enough. The "L" brackets are quite expensive in comparison to the eBay plates. Good luck.
jtori Posted January 22, 2017 Share #3 Posted January 22, 2017 I too have contacted RRS seeking a plate for the Leica Q. Like you, I'm surprised there is no dedicated L-Plate/Grip for the Q; it appears obvious by absence. It's especially interesting in light of the apparent popularity of the Q. Joe. Ranchhand Posted January 23, 2017 Share #4 Posted January 23, 2017 Since I have become dedicated to using the RRS tripods, and since RRS has not seen fit to produce an L bracket for the Leica Q, I ordered the Three Legged Thing QR-10L L Bracket which B & H Photo (bhphoto.com) offers for $39.99. Although it is not made to fit the Leica Q, it is not a perfect fit, but I think it will work. Hope this helps. Louie
fstop Posted January 23, 2017 Share #5 Posted January 23, 2017 Another alternative is to get a Leica ballhead that comes with a small, unobtrusive, but strong quick mount that you can leave attached to the camera at all times. You can also buy additional little mounts for any other cameras you have.
Stonewall Brigade Posted January 24, 2017 Share #6 Posted January 24, 2017 Another alternative is to get a Leica ballhead that comes with a small, unobtrusive, but strong quick mount that you can leave attached to the camera at all times. You can also buy additional little mounts for any other cameras you have. But I believe the Leica mounts are sized differently from Arca Swiss? If true, then there is less utility to have a ball head that won't accept other L-plate or quick release options, other than Leica's.
