Ivar B Posted December 29, 2016 Share #1 Posted December 29, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) A fellow Leica user here in Norway owns a Noctilux 1.0/50mm with the 70-year 1913-1983 engaving. Has anyone ever seen this lens before or have you seen any sales of it? Apparently, less than 5 (?) exist.
Advertisement Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 Hi Ivar B, Take a look here Noctilux 1.0/50 1913 - 1983. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted December 29, 2016 Share #2 Posted December 29, 2016 Never seen one... and neither read about a Noctilux within the group of lenses which were engraved 1913-1983... are you sure it is an original engraving ? The 70th anniversary lenses were provided with customized box and certificate...
chris_livsey Posted December 29, 2016 Share #3 Posted December 29, 2016 (edited) Also produced were a limited number of "Leica 1913-1983" MR-4 light meters, 28/2.8 Elmarits, 35/1.4 Summilux, 35/2 Summicrons, 50/1.4 Summilux, 50/2 Summicrons, 75/1.4 Summilux, 90/2.8 Tele-Elmarits, and Leica Winder M4-2 engraved to match this camera. While some of the specially engraved lenses were sold separately, some produced for various combo sets with the camera and a special camera bag marked "Leica 1913-1983." One 1913-1983 combo set consisted of the camera, winder, 35/2 Summicron, 90/2.8 Tele-Elmarit, and specially marked camera bag. https://www.cameraquest.com/lmp70.htm No Noctilux Does the engraving match this apparently genuine lens? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EXC-Leica-Summicron-M-35mm-f2-pre-ASPH-1-2-35-1913-1983-70-Years-anniversary-/252665862941?hash=item3ad40f1b1d%3Ag%3AH8wAAOSwux5YQrOd No mention of a special edition here, other lenses issued for that anniversary are listed as such. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/50mm_f/1_Noctilux-M Not discounting that 5 may have been a special order by a dealer. Guest Posted December 29, 2016 Share #4 Posted December 29, 2016 (edited) From the last link here, scrolling down to Cavina3 and saying thanks and Happy New Year! Marco's site helped with my collection of Canon 1.2/85 and Zeiss lenses, but I didn't know this section. sandro Posted December 29, 2016 Share #5 Posted December 29, 2016 Interesting, but it does sound a bit strange. I have a few of the 1913-1983 lenses and was lucky to find a Summilux 1.4/35mm with the engraving and in its original box a few years ago in Milan. B\ut I never heard or read about a Noctilux with this engraving. Ivar, where did you get the information that only 5 or even less exist? If so, that doesn't make much sense in my opinion, since the special series was made and engraved to sell. Lex
Ivar B Posted December 31, 2016 Author Share #6 Posted December 31, 2016 I checked with Westlicht in Vienna and they had also heard there were 5, but this was the 3rd they had come across so possibly the number could be a little higher.
sandro Posted January 2, 2017 Share #7 Posted January 2, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks, Ivar! Do you think you could get a photo of that special Noctilux to show us here? Lex
marknoll Posted January 6, 2017 Share #8 Posted January 6, 2017 (edited) I am referring to Paul-Henry van Hasbroeck in "Leica. A History Illustrating Every Model and Accessory" on page 329 of the Italian version:"... The following objectives with the engraving "Leica 1913-1983 " were available: Elmarit 28 - Summicron 35 -Summicron 50 - Summilux 50 - Tele-Elmarit 90.The commemorative models were offered with a branded bag in 3 different configurations:Kit 1 = M4-P + 50 + Summicron leicameter MR + winder M4-2.Kit 2 = M4-P + Summilux 50 + 28 Elmarit + leicameter MR + winder M4-2.kit 3 = M4-P + Summicron 35 + Tele-Elmarit 90 + winder M4-2.Only for the Italian market were produced nr. 150 Summilux 35 and nr. 150 Summilux 75.Leica gave the dealer of Berlin 5 pieces of NOCTILUX belonging to the batch "3151xxxx" but are not sequential numbers." I am attaching picture of my NOCTILUX that, as you can see, has sr. nr "29xxxxx". This suggests that there are at least 6 of the 70th anniversary lenses. I wish you an happy new year Mark nocti_70th.psd Edited January 6, 2017 by marknoll
luigi bertolotti Posted January 6, 2017 Share #9 Posted January 6, 2017 Thanks Mark !!! You joined the forum with a very tasty news.... I have the Van Hasbroek book but is probably a previous edition... and does not quote the "70th" items...
marknoll Posted January 7, 2017 Share #10 Posted January 7, 2017 Likely, dear Luigi, because I refer to the Italian edition published by Garzanti in 1990 (commissioned by Romolo Rappaini and translated by Maurizio Capobussi). The original edition of 1983 certainly did not have the eighth chapter: "Further development of the M and R models, 1983-90".Hi Mark
sandro Posted January 9, 2017 Share #11 Posted January 9, 2017 Mark, thanks very much for the picture of the Noctilux. I already felt lucky owning one of the 150 Summilux 35mm for the Italian market, but one out of 5 of this Noctilux is something different again! Pecole Posted May 24, 2021 Share #19 Posted May 24, 2021 Frankly, I did not remeber if I had or not. So, I rushed once again to my archives and dicovered that I had only two "normal" Noctilux 1.0 : serials 2750456 and 2854267. Here is a photo of the first one. Welcome, dear visitor! alan mcfall Posted May 24, 2021 Share #20 Posted May 24, 2021 My 50 f/1.0 Noctilux lenses are: 2914337 Version 1 3154467 Version 2 But my favorite Noctilux is still the 50 f/1.2. I am not saying it takes better pictures, but it is easier to handle and less common.
