PunchyPariah Posted December 9, 2016 Share #2 Posted December 9, 2016 Hi Mike, I wondered if it would make it to the forum at some point, didn't think it would be that quick. Thanks for posting these pics and the link, I''m glad you're finding it useful. I hope a few more folk will find a use for one too. Simon.
Jon Pop Posted December 10, 2016 Share #3 Posted December 10, 2016 (edited) Wonderful! I'll even buy a couple from you if you message me (honest!...not for a profit, I saw his guidelines in sharing the files...it's just that I don't have a 3D printer or know anyone who has one). This is a great idea!! Edited December 10, 2016 by Jon Pop

I'll even buy a couple from you if you message me (honest!...not for a profit, I saw his guidelines in sharing the files...it's just that I don't have a 3D printer or know anyone who has one). This is a great idea!! Message Simon (PunchyPariah), I don't know if he'd be willing to make any or not but it's worth asking. I can't, the printer I use is my employers and personal use is obviously limited.
PunchyPariah Posted December 10, 2016 Share #5 Posted December 10, 2016 Wonderful! I'll even buy a couple from you if you message me (honest!...not for a profit, I saw his guidelines in sharing the files...it's just that I don't have a 3D printer or know anyone who has one). This is a great idea!! There are a few 3D printing services around, (Shapeways and i.materialise to name but two). You could try uploading the file to one of them and they'd print the parts for you. You'd have to clean the parts up and stick a hinge pin in it though. I don't know how much it might cost but it definitely wouldn't be as much as an original ABLON. As you know, the license I've imposed on my 3D file is a non-commercial one but I don't have a problem with people having it third party printed. As long as folk aren't printing and selling them to make a profit that's fine.
mikemgb Posted December 10, 2016 Author Share #6 Posted December 10, 2016 (edited) My hinge pins are large paperclip, suitably cut and bent at the ends to hold it in place. Edited December 10, 2016 by mikemgb
Jon Pop Posted December 10, 2016 Share #7 Posted December 10, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for the suggestion - I found a local 3D printing service, sent them the file, and it's being printed as we speak!
mmx_2 Posted December 19, 2016 Share #8 Posted December 19, 2016 (edited) Nice one! I will print on my Zotrax M200 and give feedback . And if if print nicely, and OP is OK with it, I'm happy to print for others at "self-cost-price". Edited December 19, 2016 by mmx_2
mmx_2 Posted December 19, 2016 Share #9 Posted December 19, 2016 Print was succesful Unfortunately no film here, but I will test it later today. It's printed in grey ABS-plastic (mainly because that was what was in the printer )
harryzet Posted December 19, 2016 Share #10 Posted December 19, 2016 did they also print the holes where the two parts are connected with rods?
mikemgb Posted December 19, 2016 Author Share #11 Posted December 19, 2016 (edited) did they also print the holes where the two parts are connected with rods? Yes, the hinge holes are there, I just had to push a paperclip through them to clear out a little debris. And having used three films cut on mine over the weekend I can tell you it is nice to have. mmx_2 Posted December 20, 2016 Share #12 Posted December 20, 2016 This one has otherwise "been around" since 2014: I printed one already back then but I had totally forgot about it . http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:462016 Anyway, I still think the ABLON is better .

mikemgb Posted March 27, 2017 Author Share #14 Posted March 27, 2017 So whip out 50 more and make some money! Download the file and find a local company that does 3D printing, there are plenty of them around.
PunchyPariah Posted March 27, 2017 Share #15 Posted March 27, 2017 So whip out 50 more and make some money! Why is there such a need for people to make a fast buck? I uploaded the file with a non-commercial license for people to download and print (or have some one print for them) for their own personal use. I could have kept the file private, started printing and selling them myself on the auction site, but instead I decided to share it with the community and hoped it would be of use to those of us that can't afford the overly hiked prices of an original ABLON. Maybe I'm being oversensitive about your post, maybe it's too early in the morning and I need more coffee, but I would find it extremely disheartening if someone were selling these for profit just to "make some money".

I thought in error that you were the creator of the link/file. Are you not? If it is your property, and considering that the vast majority of us do not own 3D printing hardware, you might consider it proper to sell your output. If it is your property, and considering that the vast majority of us do not own 3D printing hardware, you might consider it proper to sell your output. You were correct in that I am the creator of the file. However, the post you replied to telling them to "whip out 50 more..." was the originator of this thread, not me. I am the person that considered it proper to share my file for free so that people could print it (or have it printed) for their own personal use. I'll take it that this was an oversight on your part and we can draw a line under it. I'm only here for the love of Leica. Cheers, Simon.
