Albert2 Posted December 8, 2016 Share #1 Posted December 8, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am running the above software and decided to take both dng and jpeg files. Lightroom does not 'see' jpegs. I had to untick the 'treat jpeg images separately when next to raw files.....' in order to import the dng files. How can I import my jpeg images from the camera? I know I can make jpegs in Lightroom but I would like the original ones please! Any ideas please? Thanks
Advertisement Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Hi Albert2, Take a look here Lightroom 2015.6.1 will not recognise jpeg files on Import.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Leica Guy Posted December 8, 2016 Share #2 Posted December 8, 2016 Don't know, but I wonder if you have "do not import duplicates" checked and would that cause the problem? In the past I've imported both dng and jpg simultaneously with no issues.
SonomaBear Posted December 9, 2016 Share #3 Posted December 9, 2016 I have both jpeg & DNG created on one of my user profiles. The only reason I ever do a JPG is for uploading to facebook or some other social site. I select the smallest JPG on all cameras while I work only with RAW files. LR sees both on the Mac un less I check to treat them separately. Other user profiles are DNG only. Can not import them into iPad with WiFi app, must import via SD card reader where "Photos" recognizes DNG and LR Mobile can import them from Apple's Photos. LR on Mac shows both files if present. If I check not to separate them, I only see them as DNG. I seem to remember reading that the JPG is actually included in the DNG as a visibility layer. Perhaps someone more literate in LR can educate us.
Herve5 Posted December 9, 2016 Share #4 Posted December 9, 2016 (...) I seem to remember reading that the JPG is actually included in the DNG as a visibility layer. Perhaps someone more literate in LR can educate us. A very small jpeg is included so that the macos Finder or Windows can show some dedicated icon, but I'm not sure the full jpeg is. Personally I also record DNG + jpeg, but I must admit most of the time the Leica jpeg recipe is very good, to the point that sometimes a very long DNG processing on my side results in something... barely better than the Leica jpeg For me DNGs are only useful in very specific situations : very dark surroundings, strong backlighting, ambition to stitch with other images... Remember, also, that the Q proposes, I think, four separate settings scales to adjust jpeg buildup, which gives a range so large that I didn't test it all on my side.
