So I'm getting ready for my trip to Tanzania and decided I would go out and shoot a few pictures with the S007 and my Hasselblad 250mm lens.

Well I fired up the camera and nothing, I just got the red light pop up on the bottom right but the camera did not start. I then pulled the battery about half a dozen times and still nothing.

I then removed the hasselblad lens and put a S lens on the body, it still wouldn't fire up so started pulling the lens and on the second attempt it fired up. I took some pictures and all seemed good. I then tried again with the gasselblad lens and nothing. I then put the S lens back on and this time it fired up but I just got the first page of the menu screen and no functions would work.

Pulled the battery and all fired up and camera works fine. I then switched the camera off and on and the camera is now frigging dead won't start won't do sweet f@ck all.

I heading over to Leica Malaysia and see how frigging long it's going to take to get a loaner that I'm entitled too.

I'm done with this high dollar sh!t........... its disappointment after disappointment

After all that, I would be tempted to get the S007 repaired and trade it in for an M-P 240.

Do these kinds of malfunctions happen much with the S system cameras?  I was starting to think about the S, but this story does not exactly stoke the fires of S desire in my belly...

I've just had a call from Leica in Malaysia and they will drop off a loaner at 5pm.

When I got home I tried new battery, new card. I updated my body to 4.1. With a CS lens you can switch it on and off many times by going to the CS position on the switch. If you happen to stop at the first point FS then go to CS you have to pull the battery to get anything to work. It still won't switch on with the Hasselblad lens.

From what I can recall. The on off switch didn't care whether you had a CS or none CS lens on the body. If you put a none CS lens on the camera and switch to CS it would just give you a warning but it would still work.

At least I'm getting a loaner. The first thing I will do is try the Hasselblad lens to see if it's an university thing or not......... my gut feeling it's not but I will know by 5pm

Well, bad luck mate. I always feel that electrically the Leica S is quite unstable. So, I think they probably screw up in the firmware or something. I have had problem with the S007 I liveview on the aperture DoF preview button getting stuck shut. and only way to reset is to take out battery.

Well Leica Malaysia came through and had a brand new 007 for me at 5pm.

When I got it home it worked as it was supposed to so obviously my unit is f@ckef.

I got talking with him about this pulling battery lark. And I explained to him that the Leica S is a luxury camera. I told him that I have been driving a Porsche for the last two years and during that time while out shoppingi have never had to come out to the car park and have to remove the battery so that I could get the car to start........... end of conversation:) :)

What will you get this time?

Earl

I'm going to stick with what's I've got. My main camera will be my Hasselblad 503 and will use the unreliable S007 as a back up.

The Hasselblad 503 was a real pain in the ass to drag around Ragasthan but when I look at the files I think f@ck it........ the enjoyment I get from using the 503 and processing the negs out weighs the lugging the sh!t around. As long as I'm fit enough I will keep doing it as well as bitching about it every time I have to lug it around.

At the end of the day it's what comes out of the printer that matters and as of now I prefer the look of my film prints over my digital ones :) :)

Sounds good, Neil. Now we just need to convince you that you don't need to carry 4 lenses with you, and we'll have you out using the 503 as a P&S camera, whilst your back thanks you for it.

Hello All

I've had this issue many ti

mes with my S 006. The R/H bottom red light when is flashes means the battery is completely flat. These S batteries are faulty with short service life.  I have found that when the camera fails (red light) would lead one to think that a recharge would restore the battery to a working level, not so, well not so most of the time. The battery charger's yellow and red light will flash meaning (from the manual) the battery is overcharged. So put the battery away install a new one and the camera will start working Is the battery stuffed, well yes and no. Try recharging it weeks or months later charge may become normal and it will work in the camera however, is now very unreliable.... Warranty replacement should be sought but Mr Leica makes things hard for replacements..

Not my experience at all. I've never had these symptoms with my S006.
