I had always thought a 28 summilux would be my favorite lens. Now that I own it I have to say first, it is really amazing glass. However, it's also just a bit cumbersome. I love my 50 APO for its size and quality. Would the new 28 Summicron be a better match or should I just learn to deal with the extra size? I have a 35 summilux FLE and the 0.95 50. In terms of a set the summilux 28 fits in, but when it comes down to it- I always seem to grab the 50 APO because of how easy and enjoyable it is to use.

Really small lenses are great for everyday use :

The 28 Elmarit is a nice compliment for the 28 Summilux : e.g. an outdoor and indoor / night pairing.

The 28 Summicron with hood is not much shorter than the 28 Summilux ; without hood about the same as a 50.

I held back from trading in my 28 Summicron when getting the 28 Summilux;

I like all three ; just like multiple 50s, there a time and place where each shines.

Just to illustrate previous post; Elmarit R 28mm Mk 2 is a very compact lens but when paired with R-Adapter M it towers Summilux.  All distortion is another 28mm lens equivalent -

Like many others, I use the 35 Summilux hood on the 28 Summicron.  There are other hoods that also work....depending how much coverage one demands.

I have the Summicron version #2. I thought about the Summilux for long time, but the size of the Lux kinda turns me off. So I recommend the new Summicron #2. It's best of both worlds between Elmarit and Summilux. the new hood is awesome and in my opinion I prefer the bokeh of the Summicron over the Summilux. It's tad smoother, even if it's slightly less blur. Half the weight (270 g vs 440 g) :)
