Mantice Posted October 21, 2016 Share #1 Posted October 21, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) It used to be the APO R teles (esp. 280/4), but now we have 50AA, and Zeiss comes out with Otus while many manufacturers making higher and higher resolving lens. Just for fun - which lens from Leica till now do you think is the highest resolving lens to date?

k-hawinkler Posted October 21, 2016 Share #2 Posted October 21, 2016 Could you please list line pairs per mm? TIA.

Just for fun - which lens from Leica till now do you think is the highest resolving lens to date? I'll bet you and I know the question cannot be answered unless we have strident, well stated conditions which unfortunately have little to do with our use of Leica, or any other lenses. If one wants to measure the highest lp/mm resolution he will use predominantly blue light with a perfect black and white target such as the 50's military standard. Very cool if you want to show such photos, but we do not. It might be more fruitful to discuss how we destroy sharpness. Factors include unsteady platforms (hands vs tripod), filters (destroy resolution with red filters, even APO lenses), focusing distance (especially with a rangefinder), focal length (long lens are easier to correct.) . Mantice Posted October 22, 2016 Author Share #4 Posted October 22, 2016 You're right, I should rephrase it as "what is the sharpest Leica lens ever used", (on high density digital bodies). Its interesting since there has been many discussions about lens resolution got hit hard by higher and higher MP sensors, and people who accustom to Otus or 50AA are hard to get used to any other older lens, spoiled by its IQ. With the 70MP rumors to come, I'm wondering what will be the lens that could still hold against sensor advancement. (and hence why so many people prefer to stay 24MP and below) I'll bet you and I know the question cannot be answered... .

Well I have and use an APO-50 on the M7, M240 and Monochrom. I have no such concerns going back to my other low resolution, crappy, B-grade Leica lenses ;-)
otto.f Posted October 22, 2016 Share #6 Posted October 22, 2016 I saw someone suggesting here that new APO Summicron 28 might be in photo-finish with the APO Summicron 50.
