Anybody any idea when this is finally available? Leica has been promising this since spring of this year. Camera is just to heavy without it.

Wrote to Leica yesterday and got this reply:

We launched the handgrip on photokina and sales start was 09/15.2016 in a small quantity. The demand is higher than the production figures and we are not able to satisfy all needs at the moment. I suppose that the delivery to our international agencies will be pushed within the next weeks to work of the backlogs. May I ask for your patience. I see that you have sent your inquiry also to our Dutch agency yesterday afternoon. They are the correct contact persons and I’m sure that my colleagues from Transcontinenta will assist you in receiving your hand-grip soonest. sorry for being not able to help you from my side here. Have a nice day

Well that says it all. I don't think Leica takes it professional users of a newly introduced camera (although already 2 years since the introduction) very serious and prefers to focus on continuously launching new products. The grip was planned for delivery in the spring, then summer, then fall and now it seems that even November won't be realistic.

Leica releases a new somethingorother and initially they can't make enough to meet demand. Gee I've never heard of that before. :)

.......except for the M9, M, SL, 90-280, SF40, SF64 and most newly released M lenses in the last 10 years. Did I miss any?

What new products? The only one I can think of is the Sofort. Leica don't even make that one.

While I agree that the delay is not ideal, the lack of a grip is an inconvenience, not a show stopper. And it is pretty normal for a small company like Leica.

I believe It's one year since the SL was launched, not two. Have interest in the grip myself, but not having it is not, fortunately, a show stopper.

Leica is a small producer with limited capacity.

They tend to 'batch' manufacture, where the production line makes a given quantity then rotates onto another product.

Of course they could 'out-source' production to another company ...... but then we would all complain about it not being 'made' by Leica .......

With Wetzlar and Portugal geared up to produce as much as possible 'in-house' I can't see the position changing.

Considering they are producing the M manuals, various flavours of M digital, Q, T, XV, S and SL plus T, M, S, and SL lenses plus the bigger accessories ....... and mostly hand assembled/adjusted, I think they manage pretty well. (I've ignored the tiddly cameras as I am not sure what % Leica assembles/makes)

Better to have a waiting list and be working flat out than a warehouse full of very expensive stock you cannot sell.
