Oldbohemia Posted October 19, 2016 Share #1 Posted October 19, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone, I've been stalking your forums, learning a lot and I'm really grateful for all the information available. Today i won a leica x2 for £601 on ebay and was really quite happy but I've just recieved a message from the seller informing me that he can't accept my money because he dropped it while packing it and there is now a scratch on the lens so he wants to cancel the deal. Assuming the scratch is a biggie Could i/ should i get it fixed if i suggest the deal still go ahead? And how much does this traditionally cost? Any help is greatly appreciated and I'm pleased to finally be part of the forum.

wda Posted October 19, 2016 Share #2 Posted October 19, 2016 Welcome! Several questions spring to mind on reading your inaugural posting, uppermost how much credence can you place on the vendor's story. My instinct is to withdraw from the sale and get your money back. A dropped camera can suffer more than just a scratched lens. The focusing could be inaccurate, for example. Used X2 cameras are normally easy to find. Have you watched sales in this forum? dpitt Posted October 20, 2016 Share #3 Posted October 20, 2016 I would withdraw too. This story smells.... If it is true, something can be broken inside, or even be weakened so that it breaks later on => you do not want that. If he lies about it, and he wants to withdraw because you got it too cheap... Hard to prove, He can do that, but not too often on eBay. If he lies about how it got the scratch. Something else is going on => you do not want that. Oldbohemia Posted October 20, 2016 Author Share #4 Posted October 20, 2016 Thanks for the replies guys. I requested photographs of the damage stating that i would like to assess and that I was reluctant to cancel. I also politely reminded him that an ebay sale is a legally binding contract to which he immediately replied saying he had been wiping the lens with a cloth and you could now not see the scratch and it was "perfect now" ... Hmmm. He has agreed to send photos today so i will see how this plays out before making a decision. Once again, thank you both for your advice. There will be another good deal around the corner......there always is.

jaapv Posted October 30, 2016 Share #7 Posted October 30, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) And if it is true - a new front element will be more costly than the value of the camera. You don't want to buy a write-off. Accept the refund and buy another one. Preferably from a reputable dealer including a guaranty.
nocti lux Posted October 30, 2016 Share #8 Posted October 30, 2016 I would cancel the deal as the seller has offered. Look around another one. I think, it's dangerous to buy a camera, that has dropped to the floor.
earleygallery Posted October 30, 2016 Share #9 Posted October 30, 2016 Maybe I'm odd but I don't like to buy anything if there's any bad 'karma'. Walk away from the deal.
robert_parker Posted November 1, 2016 Share #10 Posted November 1, 2016 My suspicion is that there is something not right about the seller's story, probably that he has it in mind that he wants to keep the camera, or that he can get a better price elsewhere. You have been told that the lens was scratched, when you asked for photographs, it isn't. In any event I would run.

If you have the opportunity to leave feedback I would do so to warn other buyers.only contact the buyer via EBay messaging as this is monitored. Check the persons feedback. If the seller has a good history he could be very genuine and wants to be fair. A lot of honest people buy and sell on eBay but they are not allways sharp.I buy and sell on eBay and you have to watch the buyers just a much as the sellers. teb1013 Posted November 12, 2016 Share #12 Posted November 12, 2016 Scratched the lens? Does he mean the glass? How could one accept that, even if nothing else hurt? Sounds like he's trying to palm off a dodgy piece of equipment. As everyone else is saying get your money back and do a Leica search on ebay, you'll find lots else to bid on.
