Antonio Russell Posted October 18, 2016 Share #1 Posted October 18, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, Anyone know where I can get a new lens hood for my 50 Summilux ASPH and what it is like to cost? I refer to the build in lens hood. Thanks, Tony
Advertisement Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Hi Antonio Russell, Take a look here 50mm Summilux ASPH lens hood. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
MarkP Posted October 18, 2016 Share #2 Posted October 18, 2016 This is not an accessory available for retail purchase. I think you will need to have it replaced through Leica service or other recognised lens repairer.
Antonio Russell Posted October 18, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted October 18, 2016 Could anyone recommend a Leica lens repairer in Spain that could do this?
elgenper Posted October 18, 2016 Share #4 Posted October 18, 2016 Two years ago, I stumbled over a dog leash and fell, badly bruising the retractable shade on my Apo Summicron 75, which is very similar to the one on the Summilux 50. Otherwise, nothing was damaged or out of adjustment, luckily enough (and the dog was unharmed, too...). I didn´t like the look and feel of that lens shade, however, so I asked my friendly dealer to try and order one as a spare part. He did, it arrived, and I switched it myself. The price was horrendous: SEK 2000 (about 200 Euro), but my insurance covered it. It would have covered the cost if I had sent the lens to Leica; but I was positive it didn´t need readjustment, and I didn´t want to be without it for so long. Try your dealer and see what he can do for you. Only make sure you´ll be able to make the switch (the design is a bit different from the 75 mm one, so I cannot advise you about the details).
Brad Maestas Posted July 15, 2017 Share #5 Posted July 15, 2017 I just had to replace mine. Mine was out of round enough that it was hard to collapse even after some TLC so I ordered it through my local Leica Store. It ended up being just under $200USD with tax. Ouch! It included the hood itself (no thread ring), Teflon spacers, and a new set screw. I couldn't be happier. It is restored as new! egrossman Posted July 16, 2017 Share #6 Posted July 16, 2017 My hood was damaged by my 3 year old daughter swinging a toy broom at me that hit my lens hood. Nothing else was damaged. I called the Leica NJ repair department directly and the charge was about $115 for the hood which they will send to me (I haven't received it yet). Clearly the cheapest solution is to skip the dealer and call Leica directly...

I just received the replacement hood in the mail from Leica NJ and the process of installing the new hood was fairly straight forward. It took me about 20 minutes as there were no instructions and I was being careful. If I were to do it again it would probably take 5-10 minutes. leicaMMnyc Posted December 1, 2019 Share #8 Posted December 1, 2019 Sorry to resurrect this thread, but the screw which holds the hood on came out and I need to find it to replace it. Does anyone know what type of screw it is (length, width, etc)?
