Safari Rally, Western Australia

I took the kids out to watch some rally cars today, for some reason my youngest is 2 and hasn't been to a rally yet (the eldest went to her first at 4 weeks old)

The M was a bit tricky to shoot with, i wound up prefocusing on a bit of road, stopping down to f5.6 and hoping. with my 90mm not behaving (90 M Rokkor with a loose rear element) i had to shoot these with the 50 Summarit and crop them heavily, and made square for instagram.

certainly a big change from a few years back, when i used to wander off into the forest loaded down like a pack mule, with a 400 f2.8 and a variety of shorter lenses, to being stuck in the spectator area with one body and a lens (and unable to change the background much by moving)

Dylan and Doug were 2 points apart in the championship, leading into this final round.

Dylan finished the event almost a minute ahead of Doug, but the final results (with penalties) haven't been released yet.

"Double Zero" (not sure who is in it, the name stickers may not be accurate)

before the competition vehicles, there is three course cars that travel the stage at increasing speed (000 goes through at 60ish kph, 00 faster again, and 0 at about 80-90% of car 1's speed) to ensure the marshals are in place, the road is clear and spectators and media are in safe locations.

It was lovely to get back out into the forest again, even if it was just in the spectator area for an hour or so.

Comments and Criticism welcome, and thank you for looking !

Well done

Thanks Stuny,

Its a bit of a change from the Rally stuff i have done previously, but we were there more to see friends and let the kids watch a few cars.

and an update - Dylan and Abbey took 1st outright and 1st in the championship - Doug and Tammy in 2nd for event and championship, they couldn't quite make it back to back championships.

It was great to see both doing so well, Doug has been looking after our Subarus for years, and I met Dylan at his first ever rally, less than a week after he got his learners permit - photographing him for the newspaper at that event, and a few others.
