analoguser Posted October 6, 2016 Share #1 Posted October 6, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Recently I purchased a Leicavit which to all appearances appears new or at least is in mint condition. But I have tried for fit it to my IIIG and two IIIfs and it will fit with only the most insistent effort and the lock mechanism will not travel to the full lock position. In the past I have purchased a T. Abrahamsson Rapidwinder for the screw mount cameras. and It fits better but doesn't wind the cameras (all three) very well. In the past I have talked to a few Leica camera repair men and they don't recommend using the Leicavit on the screw mount cameras. As an aside I have purchased a new Leicavit for for an MP and it works very well. Can anyone comment on this problem?

Michael Geschlecht Posted October 6, 2016 Share #3 Posted October 6, 2016 (edited) Hello Analoguser, Welcome to the Forum. Welcome also to the somewhat complex World of Leitz/Leica. Some Leicavits work on some models of some cameras sometimes & don't work on other models of other cameras at all. This is the case with both screw mount & bayonet mount Leicavits. The suggestion in Post #2, just above, is a good beginning. You might also look in the "Leica Historica" Section at the top of the "Leica Collectors & Historica" page. pico Posted October 6, 2016 Share #4 Posted October 6, 2016 Someone smarter than me should post "which leicavit fits what". All my Leica's have Abrhamsson's Rapid Winder, or a late model Leica winder. All of them.
willeica Posted October 8, 2016 Share #5 Posted October 8, 2016 Generally a Leicavit will work properly, one complete wind to one pull, only on cameras that are exactly as they left the factory. Cameras which have been serviced or have had a CLA will often require a 'pull and a bit' as the service guy will have changed the orientation of the wind on spindle. If you are having a camera serviced which is normally used with a Leicavit, you should send in the Leicavit with the camera, when it is being serviced, to ensure that both are 'matched'. SCNOOs are the same. I speak from some experience of the matter. William
