giordano Posted October 3, 2016 Share #1 Posted October 3, 2016 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) The widow of a late friend has offered to lend me his Imacon scanner. I want to digitise lots of 6x6 family pix from tranny and negatives. She doesn't know anything about the technical side of photography and can't tell me whether the scanner takes 6x6 or just 35mm (Her husband had a film Hasselblad outfit and he generally liked to have the best). She emailed me that she'd looked for a model number but couldn't find it, but sent me this photograph instead: Welcome, dear visitor! If it does scan 6x6 I have to ask her to pack it up and bring it to her holiday home here tomorrow (400km by car). Any information will be gratefully received. Meanwhile I'll ask her to look for the maker's plate at the back or underneath. wattsy Posted October 3, 2016 Share #2 Posted October 3, 2016 (edited) Sorry to be vague but I believe all Imacon scanners can scan up to 4x5 – certainly I've never heard of one that only scans 35mm. That said, you will need to make sure that your friend's widow packs all the film holders too because they are film size specific. Depending upon the model, you should also be prepared for the possibility that you will have to set it up via a SCSI connection. Edit: Looks to be a Flextight 343 (which is Firewire). giordano Posted October 3, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted October 3, 2016 Thanks, Wattsy. Firewire could be a problem (my main machine is a Windows 10 Surface 3 Pro with just one USB3 port), and it looks as if Vuescan doesn't handle Imacons either, so this may all be too difficult. But it'll be fun to try
chris_livsey Posted October 3, 2016 Share #4 Posted October 3, 2016 That's an Imacon Flextight 343 Manual: http://www.kulturbuero.ch/zh/resources/imaconflextightft343manualenglish.pdf The 343 was the "amateur" model lower resolution and 6x17cm max input size, it has 2 x 400 firewire 400 ports. You will need the proprietary Flexcolor software and windows XP/2000, from memory.
chris_livsey Posted October 3, 2016 Share #5 Posted October 3, 2016 Flexcolor 4.8.9 This version supports Windows XP Pro, Windows Vista and Windows 7 on 32 & 64bit operating systems. Seems to be latest version May 2012
giordano Posted October 4, 2016 Author Share #6 Posted October 4, 2016 Well, the machine has arrived. It's an FT343, so thank you for the correct identification and the link to the manual. Unfortunately there's no film carrier. I'd asked my friend to bring all the accessories, mentioning film holders, but she didn't know just what to look for, or perhaps where to look in her late husband's den. Next time I get to the city I'll ask her if I can look for the film carriers, but for now the scanner will have to sit on the shelf.

That's a shame, if you need to look for some S/H bear in mind this model doesn't take the "standard" holders they are specific. They are still available new: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/502295-REG/Hasselblad_50200429_6x6_6x4_5_Flextight_Original_Holder.html
