So I just got back one S Lens from repair for focusing issues and I currently have my S180 Lens into Germany for repair for the focusing issue. This morning I got up to shoot and found my S70mm Lens has the same focusing issue. I then decided to shoot with my 30-90 zoom and guess what...: it is broken too. Folks this is crazy. I have a $100k system! Leica owes me and all the other loyal Leica owners an explanation and a fix. Who else is fed up?

Feel for you.

I use my Contax 645 and HC lenses as a backup.

Cannot say that I'm fed up, just sad and disappointed. Still like the S system enough to keep my S2-p and S lenses. The AF focus problem stopped me from upgrading the camera and buying more S lenses.

All I can say is Leica's business model is treat their customers as beta tester. They introduce stuffs without extensive qualification. The products they rush into maket without extensive testing.

Without disclosure what happened or what is the real solution for this, any pro-service or whatever it is called just looking pale.

That is why I feel no exciting for whatever they introduced and have no interesting in buying any their product. It acts like a fashion company offer no credibility to their customers, just keep rushing out new stuffs. The way it is doing business for the past few years is pushing the company to grave.

Their S system prices is dropping like a rock but don't expect Leica will do anything for you. you are suppose to buying into SL by now already, right? How about T? How about X? How about S? Don't you feel you are beta tester betrayed by Leica.

For average about 7K a piece, The S lens behavior deserve a class action IMO.

Nunnzzz. Can I ask you if you just recently updated the camera to the latest firmware?

This probably makes no sense, but two of my past failures (35mm, and the 45mm just a few days ago) failed very soon after a firmware update. In fact I suspect it was precisely the camera's trying to update the firmware on my 35mm that fried it.

(In the absence of any official statement from Leica I have to resort to superstition!)

My lenses seemed not to be updated with the recent firmware.

Anyone can say what is the current firmware number for the LENSES?

I raised the issue several times at the Photokina, informing them that I am onyl using my HC lenses on the 006. And till this is fixed I am not buying any S glass.

They are very concerned about it.

It is top on their agenda, but they have no solution yet (as of Sept 21), contrary to what I heard from some dealers.

See this thread, http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/263860-yet-again-another-leica-disappointment/page-5

in particular post number 91.....

"I just had an interesting message left on my phone from the head of the Leica Germany customer service.
I emailed Leica on Wednesday saying that I wanted to buy a 180mm S lens but was worried that I would get the same BS and have to send it back to Germany to get a new AF motor. I explained that if they could guarantee me a lens without having to worry about an impending AF failure I would buy one, and if there was no such guarantee then I would buy a Hasselblad lens instead (which I did this morning a 250mm superchromatic SA).
The message said that they could not guarantee if I buy a 180 lens off the shelf that the AF would not fail but if I could wait until the end of October they would make one especially for me with a guarantee that the AF would not fail."

If I were you I'd ask for replacements with this same absolute guarantee!

As I responded to this post in the earlier thread, if Leica actually develops a 'permanent' fix, the real test for me will be how Leica treats all of its existing S lens customers. That will tell me a lot about the company, much like its stance on M8 LCDs, M9 sensor corrosion, etc.

So far Leica's response has been sorely lacking....very little communication on the issue, 'repairs' based on individual lens failures (no preventative solution), and reportedly very slow turnaround for many.  We'll see.

I am currently in communication with Germany about the permanent fix for my two S Lens that are on the way to Leica. I am scheduled to have a call with them in the morning and will keep you posted on the outcome

Yes, free regardless of warranty status.  That's the only positive step Leica has taken; otherwise, no proactive repairs or recalls for units yet to break, no comment on the actual problem or steps being taken, and lots of reports from forum users on slow repairs (although some have had better turnaround).

This is such a bummer. I love the images I get with the 100S and I'm prepared to dump everything to invest in the system, but I feel like it may be a waste. Either they solve it like the M9 and eventually it's a non issue or we have to look elsewhere. The H6D for example (50 or 100) is looking really nice. I don't know what to do.

Unless you need absolute weather sealing, the H6D beats the S in almost everything. Or if you really like how the S lenses render, but then you'd risk having AF failure...

H6 beats S on everything except what I consider to be a crucial factor; rendering. IMO, the S is the best rendering MF system and I keep coming back to it.

Too bad the resolution is too low and it has alarming reliability and service. These are the deal breakers for me and I certainly don't feel at all confident in investing in it just in case things change.

For me it would be nice if rendering was the most important thing and the only thing you have to worry about, but it's frustratingly forced to take a back seat to necessity. I need the resolution that medium format is suppose to offer and I need reliability. I need to know the camera is going to work, and not take six months to fix when it breaks. This all remains a mystery and a bit of a game of chance with the S.

I use the Hasselblad and Phase One because I have to but the S has the rendering I want. Argh, It's so frustrating and especially when these systems cost so much money.
