AF struggling in low light

Recommended Posts

I have just bought a used Q and overall am wowed by the cameras performance and quality. All was good until i tried focussing indoors. The AF works from f2.8 and smaller but it wont focus wide open. The evf also starts to lag.

Is this normal? I suspect i have a dud. Or perhaps there is a setting i am not using?

Thanks

Paul

I don't see this on mine, as long as I allow the small AF light to be used.

I have been taking pics in totally dark rooms (I mean, to the extent I didn't see what I was imaging), and still the AF perfectly works.

Wouldn't you have disallowed the AF lighting?

Yes i did disable the af light. I had this disabled on my x100t so i just followed suit on the Q. I will try again with it enabled. Do you sometimes get evf lag?

So, I enabled the AF assist lamp and the problem was still present. I then tried a settings reset from the menu and voila it is fixed. I have put the settings back the way I had them and the problem has gone away. I will be watching this one carefully and hopefully no more gremlins. Fortunately I bought from ffordes with a 6 mth warranty (for less than the deals on eBay).
