earleygallery Posted September 29, 2016 Share #4 Posted September 29, 2016 Hello, it is real leather, what you have described. Best Regards from Germany, Moritz Sounds like an imitation product to me.......... Ostrich look, chestnut As attractive as ostrich leather, as tough as calf leather.
jaapv Posted September 29, 2016 Share #5 Posted September 29, 2016 It's Calf leather with an Ostrich imprint, not to my taste, I might add. All a-la-carte coverings are real leather except the "Vulcanite"

NB23 Posted October 3, 2016 Share #8 Posted October 3, 2016 It's plastic.
NB23 Posted October 3, 2016 Share #9 Posted October 3, 2016 It's plastic. I can't be sure, obviously, but it does feel like plastic. Plastic doesn't mean bad: the original vulcanite was so good.
tatetate Posted October 9, 2016 Author Share #10 Posted October 9, 2016 Honestly i dont think it feel bad by any way however as a owner i have no clue what this thing is. Leica Doesnt respond. i am awaiting their reply for ages. sob
IkarusJohn Posted October 9, 2016 Share #11 Posted October 9, 2016 (edited) From the Leica a la carte configurator: Genuine, quality full-grain cowhide leather, with special ostrich print, chestnut brown. Leather is a natural product and as such there may be slight variations in colour and texture. These characteristics underline the genuine nature and quality of leather. That doesn't mean your father's is, as it depends on when he had it made. Things change, and NB23's is plastic, so there is variation. Put a flame to it - if it melts, it's plastic; if it's leather, then it won't harm it at all ... Edited October 9, 2016 by IkarusJohn
tatetate Posted October 24, 2016 Author Share #12 Posted October 24, 2016 Aha!! Leica has no clue too.
Michael Geschlecht Posted October 25, 2016 Share #13 Posted October 25, 2016 (edited) Hello Tatetate, Welcome to the Forum. I would not rush to test what the covering is with a flame. There are types of real leather that can be damaged by a flame. Best Regards, Michael Edited October 25, 2016 by Michael Geschlecht
tatetate Posted October 28, 2016 Author Share #14 Posted October 28, 2016 I wonder if someone would try that Many thanks michael. you are very kind
spydrxx Posted October 28, 2016 Share #15 Posted October 28, 2016 The term in your title "leatherette" suggests that it isn't real ostrich leather, but rather an imitation...stamped or embossed to imitate the real thing.
