thighslapper Posted September 28, 2016 Share #1 Posted September 28, 2016 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) This appeared today for those that are interested so it is shipping and available. Very well made, fits beautifully and perfectly matches the rest of the camera. Converts a big heavy camera into a very big, very heavy camera...... Completely forgotten I had this on back-order ....... well it was 9 months ago when I ordered it with some extra batteries and the remote release ...... The extra battery capacity and joystick is handy, but I can't see me using this much outdoors ...... and the camera buttons become inaccessible with one hand when used in portrait orientation. Another one of those 'must have' accessories that I suspect will gather more dust than usage .... Advertisement Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Hi thighslapper, Take a look here MF Handgrip. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
FlashGordonPhotography Posted September 28, 2016 Share #2 Posted September 28, 2016 Thanks for the report. You have confirmed what I expected. Because I work off a tripod I opted for the excellent RRS plate. But I also shoot commercial portraiture so this may eventually find a way into my bag. But I don't think it's going to be permanently glued to the camera. The grip has its own joystick and buttons. How do they feel in use? Are they in the same spot as the camera versions or is all you muscle memory thrown out the door? Gordon
thighslapper Posted September 28, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted September 28, 2016 Shutter button and rear rotary wheel fall to hand in much the same fashion. As you tend to hold the grip part way down the joystick is set lower (about 3cm down) and your thumb tends to naturally fall on it. There is another rotary wheel just behind the shutter which does EV adjustment .... or at least it does with my noctilux attached in MF mode. As I have forsaken a neckstrap and use a hand one my RRS attachment plate now is stuck in the way ...... there is a 2nd lug on the handgrip so I will probably get a 2nd hand strap and devise some way of painlessly swapping between the two. I'll post some photos later .....
thighslapper Posted September 29, 2016 Author Share #4 Posted September 29, 2016 some photos ...... I left on my handstrap and fixing plate .... which surprisingly works without adjustment, although it then gets in the way of the portrait handle which defeats the whole point. As above I will have to sort this somehow. having used it a bit more today it is very well designed ...... but with a lens like the noctilux the weight is substantial. Welcome, dear visitor! Guest Posted October 6, 2016 Share #8 Posted October 6, 2016 can someone tell me if its made from metal? Yes, it is indeed. Seems as well built as the SL itself
stephan_w Posted October 7, 2016 Share #9 Posted October 7, 2016 Yes, it is indeed. Seems as well built as the SL itself thx for this information! At this price it should be made from pure gold :-) but it's really nice because all other grips are made of plastic today
steppenw0lf Posted October 7, 2016 Share #10 Posted October 7, 2016 And are you using it - or is it rather collecting dust ?
Guest Posted October 7, 2016 Share #11 Posted October 7, 2016 Let me put it this way; it will only come off to replace the main battery. Otherwise, I would have permenantly glued it on
Guest Posted October 7, 2016 Share #12 Posted October 7, 2016 thx for this information! At this price it should be made from pure gold :-) but it's really nice because all other grips are made of plastic today I am very new to Leica but one thing I learnt very quickly after getting into the brand is that Leica photography products are at least 2 to 3 times as expensive as their nearest rivals. This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who owns anything with the red logo on it.
