Guest VVJ Posted September 22, 2016 Share #1 Posted September 22, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Read on LL: http://forum.luminous-landscape.com/index.php?topic=113635.0 Apparently one Japanese store (mapcamera) has 18 mint second hand Leica SL bodies. This seems an awful lot to me... Anybody any idea what is going on there?

james.liam Posted September 23, 2016 Share #2 Posted September 23, 2016 Probably demo models used at shows, lent out to opinion leaders and returned. Shot 12 times and sold as used.
steppenw0lf Posted September 23, 2016 Share #3 Posted September 23, 2016 (edited) A total of 23 cameras and 17 lenses. Quite a collection. Must have been a big event or campaign to demo or hand out so many cameras for trial. (Or a rental company selling them off after the Olympics ?) The prices are high (if I did the conversion correctly, 100 yen - 1 dollar) almost like new. https://search.mapcamera.com/?keyword=leica%20SL&sort=keyword Edited September 23, 2016 by steppenw0lf
dugby Posted October 2, 2016 Share #4 Posted October 2, 2016 I have been to Map Camera outside Shinjuku train station, many times. It is a wonderful, though small (square meters / feet) sized shop with a huge array of S/H Leica gear. I think my car's garage is bigger. To have the additional number of SL's on display......what a "head spin" it must be. Whilst this shop is not a Leica Boutique, I would say Map Camera have much more Leica product than any of the big boutiques I've been in, including London, NYC, Hong Kong. steppenw0lf Posted October 2, 2016 Share #5 Posted October 2, 2016 Can you take a photo next time you go there ? It seems to be a special place - at least now for a Leica SL owner. (Seems to be a hot spot.) As you are more familiar with japanese way of life, do you have an idea how it comes they have so many SLs ?
dugby Posted October 2, 2016 Share #6 Posted October 2, 2016 I don't have any immediate plans to go to Tokyo at the moment, however I have this old photo of the Map Camera shop window Welcome, dear visitor! adamdewilde Posted October 4, 2016 Share #7 Posted October 4, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Leica is having a hard time selling SL cameras. So what they do is give dealers good deals on SL cameras and tell them to sell them as Demo units. It's a sales tactic. They've done it with M cameras and M lenses for the past little while. And have been doing it with S-bodies as well. They're perfectly fine. And probably a good deal for someone living in Japan. But if you want a real deal on the SL, go to HK. It'll be worth the airfare, that's how cheap they are there. Hope this helps!
