Everyone, I have a Leica M9 and I'm trying to figure out if the camera supports a Release Cable through the micro USB port on the left side of the camera?

Does anyone know if it does? I have the manual push shutter release but I am trying to do Lightening Photography with my M9. I'm actually looking to purchase this item here:

www.lightningtrigger.com.

Can anyone help me out on this issue? Thank you!

No. Sorry it does not. The only way to use the M9 USB to take a picture is by using a laptop. On the Mac it is the  Image Capture app. Someone else can tell us what it would be under Windows.

Thanks Pico! I've been researching this issue for the past few days now and no one has been able to give me a straight answer until today.

That's a shame, such a beautiful camera and would have been better with a Lightening Trigger sensor.

That would be great if someone could tell us about the app for Windows. That would be helpful.

Thanks again.

Leica is a technology deficient system.  Learn to love it that way.

My Nikon pros can be set to do anything your heart desires.  Problem is you dig thru menus to find how to change something sometimes it is still not easily found, so I resort to carrying the manual.  Case in point.   Nikon makes it easy by having 4 modes of settings.  You might have one set for landscapes, one for studio, one for flash.   Ok I was doing portrait sessions of preschool kids, church mission free job.   The release button was very sluggish, 2/3 sec.  Does not work for squirmy kids.  Focus got turned to continuous  so when I would focus and recompose,  the camera saw out of focus and would not fire.  How do you handle that with 50 children?

I suspect this switch got moved when I put it into my new giant Lowe Pro Bag.   This is not part of the menu banks but an external switch.   The camera is so large it does not fit into a normal old fashioned pro level magnum bag.   This one is 12x12" and perhaps 24" long.   So in goes the D3,  D700 with grip, 2 lenses, 2 Nikon flashes.   sync chords, batteries .  I am getting old and the back is not as as good as it used to be ( I am working on it),  but this thing feels like a golf bag,  the big ones pros use. Thankfully this was a studio shoot.

Yesterday my 50 2.8 version 2 came back from DAG for coding, minor repair,  relube.   I dug out my Leica kit stored in a Lowe Pro X5B I think, but is is small, holds a camera and 4/5 lenses.  Naturally DAG`s repair passed the test,  but the point is all this fits in a bag 3x5 and 9" long and I can carry it.

I know where every control is, and how to change it.

KISS principle design  so love the low tech Leica.   It does what you want when you want and you can take it with you.

Long live Leica M.

I don't find Leicas to be "technology deficient". I find them to be intentionally simple, designed to a purpose. There's a difference.

Most other cameras today strive to do everything. The M does not.

The M is designed to do specific things, not everything. If you need or want to do things outside that range, well, either you figure a way to get it done or you move to a camera suited for that task. Don't blame the M if it's not best suited to doing a specific task outside its design sphere.
