shahdad Posted September 16, 2016 Share #1 Posted September 16, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I have several Leica Camera's and I would like to confirm that I have identified them correctly since each one has several variants and potential modifications. I've used https://www.cameraquest.com/ltmnum.htm to narrow each camera down but I can't figure out if what I have has any details that may make it unique or even a fake. Leica M2 from 1958? Serial number is 929972 Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Mute-on Posted September 16, 2016 Share #2 Posted September 16, 2016 Correct. Looks like a nice button rewind, no self-timer M2. What are you plans for it? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
duckrider Posted September 16, 2016 Share #3 Posted September 16, 2016 have a look at http://www.leicapages.org/ FAQ link, there You'll get years of manufacture: choose summilux.net Thomas
luigi bertolotti Posted September 16, 2016 Share #4 Posted September 16, 2016 In my opinion the most interesting of the items you showed here : an M2 "button rewind - no selftimer" , apparently in very good conditions, is a version much appreciated, for its relative rarity, by the collectors who love the classic M Leicas. I agree. It is my favourite M2 and much easier for right hand grip than either a self timer or lever rewind model. As well as being easier to hold, it looks much better than the other M2s. I have the same M2, in very nice condition but to me it's a 'user' - I didn't know it had any particular collector interest!

To the best of my knowledge, there were never any fake M2 cameras. I have two of the early M2, button-rewinds. Very nice cameras. One of mine here. shahdad Posted September 21, 2016 Author Share #8 Posted September 21, 2016 Thanks for the replies everyone. At the moment I'm just trying to figure out what I have and a relative value for them.... They have been in storage for a while and I thought I would pull them out and look into them with greater detail. I have considered selling them but not sure what the best avenue would be. I know the Westlicht Auction house has their camera auction coming up in November so might consider them.
willeica Posted September 21, 2016 Share #9 Posted September 21, 2016 Westlicht generally goes for the upper end of the market. You need to have a conversation with them about whether they are interested and also about what commission they might seek. William
shahdad Posted September 22, 2016 Author Share #10 Posted September 22, 2016 Yes. I emailed them and they were only interested in the M2, M3 and 500c.... I asked them about those details but have not gotten a reply back... they are a bit slow it seems to responding.... But based on their site, they take 18%.... plus I would have to ship it to them before the end of the month.... Based on collect blend which uses Westlicht data, Chrome M2 with button rewind, body only is 1400-1500 with a recent sale at 1448.... Interesting how with a lens it brings in 500-700$ more... 2000-2200. I think I will probably keep this one..... Not worth selling for only $1400
