Advertisement Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Hi jaapv, Take a look here The real news about the Leica Sofort! [merged thread]. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mikemgb Posted September 13, 2016 Share #2 Posted September 13, 2016 (edited) This is the second forum I've seen this rumour on this morning. Who knows? I believe the Instax is currently the world's best selling camera, what company wouldn't want to cash in on that? jmahto Posted September 13, 2016 Share #3 Posted September 13, 2016 The update on the rumor says that most probably it is real!
earleygallery Posted September 13, 2016 Share #4 Posted September 13, 2016 Wot? No black paint version??!!
jaapv Posted September 13, 2016 Author Share #5 Posted September 13, 2016 Maybe - but the flash is an afterthought straight from a 1970-ies compact, the design is horrendous with that small lens inside a soup plate and the back is full retro, to use a charitable expression. Designed and made in Rural China for Lomo... If they should bring out such a camera I do hope it will be slightly more sophisticated. It may be a rebadged/restyled Fuji, but at least Fuji came up with a nicer design.
thestatesman Posted September 13, 2016 Share #6 Posted September 13, 2016 It's genius. Targeted at young millennials who are supposedly devouring Instax because it's retro and they want to experience something they missed out on.
earleygallery Posted September 13, 2016 Share #7 Posted September 13, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) It does appear to be real - http://leicarumors.com/2016/09/13/the-new-leica-sofort-instant-camera-will-be-announced-on-september-15th.aspx/ I said years ago that Leica should sell 35mm film & now they're entering the instant film market instead! None of us saw that one coming! Maybe this is the roadmap for the future of the M. I'm not sure what to think. I like instant cameras, my first ever camera was a Polaroid. But who will pay Leica prices when there's Fuji and Lomo instead? Although if it took instant negatives that could be interesting! So Jaap, which colour will you be ordering? TW528 Posted September 13, 2016 Share #8 Posted September 13, 2016 (edited) The layout is virtually identical to the Fuji Instax mini 90 so I suspect they may be building these for Leica. Edited September 13, 2016 by TW528
earleygallery Posted September 13, 2016 Share #9 Posted September 13, 2016 Surely not?! The Leica will be hand made in Germany with special parts and of course, a genuine Leica Lens.
jmahto Posted September 13, 2016 Share #10 Posted September 13, 2016 First thing I will do is to black tape the logo.
LocalHero1953 Posted September 13, 2016 Share #11 Posted September 13, 2016 (edited) This is Leica's Photokina announcement for pros. Taking their cue from Hasselblad, this camera will be called the Luni. Edited September 13, 2016 by LocalHero1953
LocalHero1953 Posted September 13, 2016 Share #12 Posted September 13, 2016 F1:12.7 lens. This is the lens we've all been waiting for.

Michael Geschlecht Posted September 14, 2016 Share #14 Posted September 14, 2016 Hello Tom, No. Loonies are in Canada. No more paper Dollars. Best Regards, Michael
pico Posted September 14, 2016 Share #15 Posted September 14, 2016 In the US that would be the Looney. Hey, that's getting too close to my home where the Loon is our state bird! And we are proud of it. Seriously, if you could watch them in a lake... and we have thousands of lakes. Pax, Pico

And at least double the price of the Fuji which will make it more desirable to the people with money to burn.
earleygallery Posted September 14, 2016 Share #18 Posted September 14, 2016 And at least double the price of the Fuji which will make it more desirable to the people with money to burn. More like treble the price from the info so far.
wattsy Posted September 14, 2016 Share #19 Posted September 14, 2016 Maybe - but the flash is an afterthought straight from a 1970-ies compact, F1:12.7 lens. Pretty standard kind of lens speed with instant cameras, hence the flash that Jaap decries above. (Don't forget that, depending upon the instant film size, these kind of lenses are essentially medium or large format in scope.)
wattsy Posted September 14, 2016 Share #20 Posted September 14, 2016 More like treble the price from the info so far. Still pretty reasonable by Leica standards when I consider that I recently paid £100 for a plastic lens hood (and that was a "sale" price!) and when replacement lens and body caps are something like £30 or more. Seems like an interesting move by Leica and, blatant mark-up or not, is a product I'd rather have than the titanium M-P that is also flagged up on the website Jaap has linked to.
