jaapv Posted September 15, 2016 Share #1 Posted September 15, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just picked up a discounted tablet, and am thinking of using it for traveling, to view photographs. Not for storage, I have a Hyperdrive Colorspace 500 for that. So I am looking for decent editing software for Android. I tried Lightroom Mobile, and dismissed it for being part of Adobe CC, and I found it clunky and limited in use too. Other offerings use filters and presets, with only very limited editing tools. I found Photomate3 on the Net, and it looks interesting enough. Has anybody tried it? Or have other suggestions?

gbealnz Posted September 15, 2016 Share #2 Posted September 15, 2016 No real suggestions other than don't discount using the storage while traveling. I used a new TabS2 during our Euro trip last year, and backed up to it after each day. It proved worthwhile when my wife's SD card failed on the cruise. We did manage to recover the images from the card, but having an additional backup on the tablet was peace of mind too. Gary
Robert M Poole Posted September 15, 2016 Share #3 Posted September 15, 2016 Hi, I use Snapseed. It was originally made by Nik I think but now owned by Google. Very good editing tool and now accepts RAW (though I found it didn't work properly with my m9 DNGs). I use it on my phone to edit smartphone shots and I've been very impressed. I used Lightroom mobile on my iPad this summer and found it to be a very powerful tool which handled RAW files well though I missed the adjustment brush. I think you get most of the features for free without a CC account but there are some missing such as RAW editing.
jaapv Posted September 15, 2016 Author Share #4 Posted September 15, 2016 What I dislike about LR is the import routine, which prevents working directly on a file downloaded from the SD card, you always have to jump through the "import" hoops. On a proper computer, where one wants to edit a complete session it is acceptable, but for occasional use on a tablet I find it very unpractical. MRTEE Posted September 15, 2016 Share #5 Posted September 15, 2016 Hi jaapv, I use Snapseed for most of my tablet(Samsung S2) editing, and find it very good. Adjustments are easy/fast to use with jpeg. Raw I save for the desktop. I transfer files via wi-fi card from Leica T. Tony.
Robert M Poole Posted September 15, 2016 Share #6 Posted September 15, 2016 What I dislike about LR is the import routine, which prevents working directly on a file downloaded from the SD card, you always have to jump through the "import" hoops. On a proper computer, where one wants to edit a complete session it is acceptable, but for occasional use on a tablet I find it very unpractical. The slow workflow definitely made me think more carefully about selecting images to process. On the computer I will import a whole day's worth then maybe do minor tweeks on them all before choosing a few to work on in more detail. In LR mobile I would choose one from the photoreel. I found sharing them awkward too, it was hit and miss if it would actually work so I had to save a copy to the iPad then upload that to Flickr. The speed (which may be down to the iPad being quite old and a not so great wifi connection) meant that it was quite time consuming. OK for one off shots but no good for editing a lot of images. This was fine for me as I usually only had chance to work on one shot a day (I've got a 9 month old son)
prk60091 Posted September 15, 2016 Share #7 Posted September 15, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Photoshop mobile. Or Photogene⁴ are my 'go to's'. I also abandoned Lightroom , but photoshop is another story altogether (free - no cc subscription required)

Robert M Poole Posted September 15, 2016 Share #9 Posted September 15, 2016 This shot was processed using Flickr's built in editor (on iPad so not sure about Android tablet app) which I was pleasantly surprised with.
