Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted August 25, 2016 Share #1 Posted August 25, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Leica S-30mm AF just crapped itself on day two of my holiday in Vietnam. I'm trying really hard to enjoy the Leica experience but it's disappointment after disappointment. I knew I should have switched to Hasselblad when I had the chance in July. Advertisement Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 Hi Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS, Take a look here Yet again another Leica disappointment. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
sortvitt Posted August 26, 2016 Share #2 Posted August 26, 2016 The AF death-rattle made me give up on the S platform altogether (I had 4 of 6 break). I had one advice from a Leica rep to use 3rd party lenses until AF was sorted, but decided to get rid of it all. I'm on SL and Hasselblad now, both work exemplary. Miss those S files, though, and keen to see Leica's commitment to MF at PK.
Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted August 26, 2016 Share #3 Posted August 26, 2016 I'm going to wait until after PK and will probably do the same and switch to a H6D 100 so stay posted there could be a cheap 007 and 3 lenses up for grabs next month
Deliberate1 Posted August 26, 2016 Share #4 Posted August 26, 2016 Neil, damn shame, especially on holiday. Do we know if Leica repairs with a cure or the same potentially faulty components. David

alan.y Posted August 26, 2016 Share #9 Posted August 26, 2016 the original part is plastic. I believe the new part is some sort of mental I think you are thinking of the Shanghai shop xiaobauu uses that replaces the plastic gear with a metal one. I haven't read or heard that Leica does this.
Guest VVJ Posted August 26, 2016 Share #10 Posted August 26, 2016 (edited) That sucks... Just for my information, were these new or used lenses? Edited August 26, 2016 by JorisV

Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted August 26, 2016 Share #12 Posted August 26, 2016 All brand spanking new
Guest VVJ Posted August 26, 2016 Share #13 Posted August 26, 2016 All brand spanking new That is just freaking lame from Leica... I had one of my two lenses fail as well, but I bought those as used lenses, so they were older lenses... The fact however that they still sell new lenses with known problems for which a resolution exists just blows my mind...!! If you want to prematurely kill a camera system this would probably be a good practical guidebook...

R3D-D0T Posted August 27, 2016 Share #15 Posted August 27, 2016 The lack of any real proper support for this camera makes me think I'm better off using some other medium format system. It's too risky to invest so much money into the S line...
MarkP Posted August 27, 2016 Share #16 Posted August 27, 2016 Another approach Neil. You love the S files, it's just the lens AF reliability. Two of your three lenses have already been fixed. Make a stink with Leica and insist they do a prophylactic repair on your third lens then see how it goes before dumping the whole system. Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted August 27, 2016 Share #17 Posted August 27, 2016 Mark I'm planning the bitching letter after I get back to KL. I will use the lens in manly until I get ready to go back to Nigeria then hopefully they can turn it around in 28 days as I'm going to Ragistan when I got off the rig next hitch Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
jaapv Posted August 27, 2016 Share #18 Posted August 27, 2016 I think it is about time that Leica starts paying some serious attention to this problem. I am sure that it is seriously damaging the reputation of the system, if this were a car it would lead to a general recall.

Jeff S Posted August 27, 2016 Share #20 Posted August 27, 2016 Make a stink with Leica and insist they do a prophylactic repair on your third lens then see how it goes before dumping the whole system. One member reported attempting preemptive service (in person), after having more than one lens AF failure. Leica wouldn't accept a service order unless and until a problem surfaced in one of his other lenses, which would then be covered regardless of warranty status. How nice.
