Maybe beach, rather than street, photography.

Ocean Park, Maine. A favourite picture, from long ago. This is, partly, a tip of the hat to Masimo Volunté, one of our forum members for whom I have great respect.

Stuart, Louis,

Thank you both for your useful comments. Greatly appeciated

I put a “frame” around pictures to emulate what the picture would look like on the wall after I have made a print, mounted, matted, spotted and framed it (which I do myself).  In this case the file is low-ish resolution (I am not near the negative, so cannot rescan presently), so I am reluctant to make it too large.

So below is a frame-less take, a bit larger. Hope it resonates better.

Thanks again.

This is, indeed, a beautiful shot. I am putting frames, myself, to the pictures I am posting. I only try to not make them more important than the picture itself! :)

I am not very much in favor of watermarks, either. Not only I find them distracting, but also a little "pretentious", and certainly not as professional as some people may think. With the size and resolution we are posting here, photos are really useless for anyone to steal. Also, I have often heard, it is not very in Leica "spirit"! :)

Thanks Louis,

Good comments. I am not a fan of watermarks etc. I have very little concern that someone is going to rip off my pictures. The spirit here, generally, is quite good. The few rows are background noise. I am much more concerned that my pictures look well finished and are as well crafted as I can make them. IMO the craft is important.

That’s my opinion, too, Michael. You’ve made a fine job of this photo which is well made in all respects. I like the frame. For me, it complements the picture nicely.

Thanks Euston. There is much of interest being done in the UK these days. The fabulous book "Way Beyond Monochrome" is a veritable bible of B&W information from exposing film to making outstanding prints, RH Designs technology. Ilford continues to make always better materials and services, and people like Darkroom Dave (see website) offer vastly useful information and training to promote the craft of B&W photography. It is a very good time to be photographing in B&W and film.
