fotografr Posted August 23, 2016 Share #1 Posted August 23, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was biking my usual route that encircles the city today and came onto these Sandhill Cranes walking along right next to the bike path. They were completely unafraid of me and I was able to stop right next to them, pull out my DL109 and shoot a few frames before moving on. Sandhill Cranes are fairly common around here but are a sight I hope I never get tired of. It's unusual for them to be this "tame" around people. Welcome, dear visitor! fotografr Posted August 27, 2016 Author Share #5 Posted August 27, 2016 Brent, Lucky You. When a flock passes over their song is hauntingly beautiful. Thank you. I also love that sound--especially when there are hundreds flying over as they migrate.

MEB Posted August 27, 2016 Share #7 Posted August 27, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Brent, Nice photo and your story brought back my own memories of these birds. A few years ago I stopped at a gas station that was next to a marsh. As I was leaving, a mated couple and their two juveniles walked up next to my car. As I stopped and scrambled to get my M240 out of the bag on the seat next to me, one of the adults bent over (he was taller than the roof of my car) and looked at me through the passenger window. I guess he decided I was OK because the family then walked in front of my car and posed while I took a dozen shots. Then they casually walked back into the marsh. Experiences like that and yours stick in your memory. Mark

Please feel free to post one of your shots in this thread if you're so inclined.
MEB Posted August 31, 2016 Share #9 Posted August 31, 2016 "Mark--They absolutely do stick in the memory. Please feel free to post one of your shots in this thread if you're so inclined." Brent, Thank you for the invitation. My memory was faulty. This shot was taken in 2010 (not a "few" years ago), with my M9 and an M75 cron rather than my later M240. Time flies when you're having fun! Mark Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! war Posted September 2, 2016 Share #10 Posted September 2, 2016 Brent and Mark, both of these images are great. I've never been lucky enough to see them when they weren't airborne but that's a rewarding sight in itself.
