Lisbon transport (contains spoilers, if you have fun finding your way)

Not wanting to spoil the fun of anyone, who enjoys finding the way in another city, I just did some research on transportation.

As a starting point, one could take the official homepage of Lisbon Airport. I found the remarks on taxi transport noteworthy:

Taxi

Outside the terminal buildings one is able to obtain taxi services. These generally charge an average of €15 to the city center. Some of the taxis have meters in them. They charge a minimum of €2.35 during the day and €2.50 at night.

Though some of the taxi drivers may take longer routes to keep the meter running, the trip should take an average of 15 minutes to the city center.

So, taking the taxi can be a bit adventurous but should be still inexpensive.

Apparently, the metro station Aeroporto opened on July 17th. The metro plan can be found here.

For those encamped in the Expo Astoria, the metro station Marquês de Pombal is just round the corner of the hotel.

Have fun navigating :)

...also 15 EUR for the taxi trip sounds rather inexpensive, even, if the driver takes an extra loop to keep the meter running *.

One of the two tour guides I bought is a Baedeker, actually my first one. They have made the layout more contemporary (my suspicion is, that this was the first time since 1800-something) and a test browse in the book store was convincing.

*I can see this point, it is recommended to keep mechanical watches running as well to avoid, that the oil is resinfying.

Regarding transportation from the airport, indeed the taxi drivers usually try to take the long route to the center but it shouldn't be more than the 15 euros mentioned I suppose. And they should always run the meter.

The metro station Aeroporto opened in 2012 so it's a good option at 1,40 per trip (you go to the machine and buy a prepaid ticket with the number of trips you want, this ticket is to be kept and can be recharged with more trips for about 1 year, so don't throw it away if you intend to use the metro system more times).

For those taking the metro to Marques de Pombal (Hotel Expo Astoria) you would have to take the red line from Aeroporto to Saldanha and then change to the yellow line from Saldanha to Marques de Pombal. Then go up the street (Rua Brancaamp) for about 50 meters and the hotel is on the right side.

For the dinner, you can also take the metro anywhere and you would drop off at Baixa - Chiado station and then walk up the street, it's not far although it's always going up :)
