spikemozeley Posted August 18, 2016 Share #1 Posted August 18, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I was curious if it is possible to purchase the updated metal hood for the 28 Summicron. If so could it be fitted to the previous version? Cheers!
Advertisement Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Hi spikemozeley, Take a look here 28 Summicron new hood. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
John McMaster Posted August 18, 2016 Share #2 Posted August 18, 2016 Doubt it, it will be threaded like the one on the 21mm SEM and current 35mm Summilux john

John McMaster Posted August 18, 2016 Share #4 Posted August 18, 2016 The lenses I listed both thread to an external thread on the lens, with an internal thread for the filter mount. john
lct Posted August 18, 2016 Share #5 Posted August 18, 2016 The new hood could fit if 28/2 v1 lenses had an external filter thread, which they have not. Now 28/2 v1 with 12588 or 12589 hood is just a bit bulkier than 28/2 v2 with the new hood.
jdlaing Posted August 19, 2016 Share #6 Posted August 19, 2016 I believe the first lens to have that setup was the WATE. No trim ring to cover the threads if you took the hood off. I quizzed Leica at the time and the reason they didn't include a trim ring was the fron element protruded past the fron of the barrel and they didn't want it subject to damage. John McMaster Posted August 19, 2016 Share #7 Posted August 19, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) The 21mm and 24mm Summilixes are the same, but neither of them nor the WATE take filters directly to the lens ;-) john
jaapv Posted August 19, 2016 Share #8 Posted August 19, 2016 The 24 Summilux and 21 AFAIK as well take drop-in series filters.
FrozenInTime Posted August 19, 2016 Share #9 Posted August 19, 2016 If you can find one, the 12466 hood works well and looks good on the 28/2 v1 ( and 35/1.4 ASPH v1 ) , but be prepared for sticker shock.
lct Posted August 19, 2016 Share #10 Posted August 19, 2016 12466 is larger than 12588 or 12589 hoods though. Also it sits very close to 28/2 v1's aperture ring and gets somewhat in the way when rotating the later. It is not vastly superior to the 12589 from this viewpoint whilst the latter is significantly smaller, cheaper and easier to find out. The 12588 remains my favorite hood on 28/2 v1 thanks to the lack of locking ring getting in the way as well but it is difficult to find out and tends to drop more easily due to the lack of locking ring that has been added later on for the 12589. 12588 & 12466 on 28/2 v1: Welcome, dear visitor! John McMaster Posted August 19, 2016 Share #11 Posted August 19, 2016 (edited) The 24 Summilux and 21 AFAIK as well take drop-in series filters. Yes, the 21/1.4 takes Series VIII, the 24/1.4 Series VII and there is an adapter for the WATE to take 67mm, but none of these lenses are are threaded to take filters directly ;-) john Edited August 19, 2016 by John McMaster
