Advertisement Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Hi mhbphoto, Take a look here will replacing broken leatherette on my M3 devalue it?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted August 17, 2016 Share #2 Posted August 17, 2016 A standard M3, albeit a very nice camera-, is not particularly collectable. Just restore it to your taste and use it. You will be happy with it for many years.
earleygallery Posted August 17, 2016 Share #3 Posted August 17, 2016 Sounds like it's a 'user' example so no, recovering it won't affect value. You can get a fake vulcanite cover if you prefer to keep the original looks.
Michael Geschlecht Posted August 17, 2016 Share #4 Posted August 17, 2016 (edited) Hello MHBphoto, Welcome to the Forum. Do you think that it might be possible for people here to see a photo, or possibly photos all the way around, of the camera in question?Perhaps someone here might have some suggestions. By the way: The covering on the camera which James properly called "vulcanite" is the same hard rubber material which in the World of Pens & in some other Worlds of some other Things is called "ebonite". Generally a very good & a very durable material. Best Regards, Michael Edited August 17, 2016 by Michael Geschlecht
TomB_tx Posted August 18, 2016 Share #5 Posted August 18, 2016 Aki-Asahi.com sells very good quality recovering kits (self-adhesive) for all variations of the M3 and other Leicas.
spydrxx Posted August 18, 2016 Share #6 Posted August 18, 2016 I'll second Aki-Asahi, good materials, responsive, quick service. I've also used Cameraleather.com, wonderful variety, but Morgan Sparks often works pretty slowly. If your current covering is worn, chipped, missing...you'll love the new coverings. Michael Geschlecht Posted August 18, 2016 Share #7 Posted August 18, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello Everybody, The reason I suggested a set of photos to here first is that HMBphoto's M3 might NOT need to be replaced. Best Regards, Michael
NB23 Posted August 19, 2016 Share #8 Posted August 19, 2016 Maybe lose 22$. Maybe win 19$. Who knows? I never wondered about the resale value of a meal I just ate.
jaapv Posted August 19, 2016 Share #9 Posted August 19, 2016 If you decide to recover the camera, which in itself is not complicated job, provided you use a good material (personally I prefer Cameraleather, but other reputed suppliers will have a similar product) be aware that you have to strip off the old Vulcanite COMPLETELY, to the bare metal. you can find instructions here: http://www.cameraleather.com/leica_m/vulcanite.htm
