Where can I get 70mm perf. film for my "Texas Leica"

Has anyone any idea where I could buy reasonable lengths (50 or 100 foot) of 70mm perforated film for my Graflex KE-4 "Texas Leica" rangefinder? At the moment I only have one cassette for this but my daughter's father in law is on the trail of at least one more for me. Tri-X 400 would be perfect but colour negative would be equally good. I would rather not use movie film due to the different substrate. Aerial film would therefore be best. I was offered some Tri-X but it was 9 years expired with no idea how it has been kept and it was expensive as well.

It's not TRI-X, but I found you can use this IR film with goood results even for normal use.

Frank,

Thanks for that. I have an account at Maco anyway, so I can't find any daylight film, that will do. I have a couple of UK based aerial photography companies looking for me as well.

PS. Maybe I will finally find a use for the drawerful of UV/IR filters I have left over from the M8, which I only use for IR photography nowadays.

I had one of those, the full kit in the military case.  I'm sure you know, but for anyone else who might find one, do not fire the shutter without film loaded. You will likely wreck the shutter.

To answer your question, Wilson, try Aerial Photolabs. They had a very comprehensive supply of film when I was into it ten years ago.

I have decided not to go ahead with this purchase unless the seller reduces the price. It would appear the clockwork film advance is not working properly and my usual camera repairer says it is beyond his abilities to get it working again. Sadly our excellent local clock and watch repairer (7 year apprenticeship with Jaeger le Coultre) died last year, otherwise I am sure repairing a clockwork motor would have been child's play for him. I will just have to keep looking for my dream KE-4 camera or KS-6 outfit.

I presume this was the man in Lewes High St whose name I can't recall. What a shame; too few like him left. He did a good job on my grandfather's hunter a couple of years ago.

John,

Yes Brian Barnes. An interesting character, who was considerably to the left of Leon Trotsky. At one point he was the chief service technician for Rolex UK but he kept bringing all the workers out of strike so eventually he and Rolex had a parting of the ways. I used Brian for servicing many watches for over 30 years and we became friends, as I always used to have a chat with him. He managed to get an Audemars Piguet watch working properly, after Audemars Piguet UK failed, so I could then sell it (it was a retirement present from one of my old clients and I really dislike gold wrist watches, so never wore it for about 7 or 8 years).

The last watch I took into him was a old dress pocket watch that I had dropped. He called me up to say that it was beyond economic repair and did I want to collect the remnants for the gold value? I asked if he had a slim pocket watch as a replacement, so he said to come down to the shop and he would sort something out. He went into his back shop and came back with a 1920's art deco very slim full hunter, with a gold face but with no makers name obvious. He said I could have it for £100, which I agreed. He was looking very ill at that point and that was the last time I saw him.

When my wife was having her jewellery valued last year after we changed our house and contents insurers, I said I might as well have my various watches, mostly Breitlings, valued as well. I left the pocket watch in my chamois watch wallet in error because I did not expect it to be worth much more than £100. I was therefore rather taken aback when the valuation came back as: "solid gold Jaeger le Coultre full hunter pocket watch, with hand made "JC" 21 jewel movement: £2000". Now Brian must have known exactly what it was when he "sold" it to me for £100, so it must have been a parting gift.
