adli Posted August 13, 2016 Share #1 Posted August 13, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Last winter my most used lens, the 35 cron v4 separated into two pieces. After a trip to Wetzlar it is now hole again, but it seems to be vignetting more that earlier. Attached is a test picture where the vignetting is clearly visible. It is stronger to the right that to the left. Is this kind of vignetting normal on this lens or should I return the lens? Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Hi adli, Take a look here 35 summicron v4 vignetting?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
michaelwj Posted August 13, 2016 Share #2 Posted August 13, 2016 Send it back. Even if it did strongly vignette before the seperation it should have at least been symmetrical. I'm guessing you've only noticed it since it was returned?
adli Posted August 13, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted August 13, 2016 Hi Michael, Here is a photo taken three years ago with the same lens wide open. As you can see, the vignetting is not so strong. michaelwj Posted August 13, 2016 Share #4 Posted August 13, 2016 Agreed, and much smoother. Send it back.
pico Posted August 13, 2016 Share #5 Posted August 13, 2016 Indeed. Send it back. The asymmetric vignetting is unacceptable.
lct Posted August 14, 2016 Share #6 Posted August 14, 2016 (edited) I would remove the hood to be sure but w/o hood that vignetting is not normal at all. Looks like Leica QC is worse and worse. Edited August 14, 2016 by lct
NB23 Posted August 15, 2016 Share #7 Posted August 15, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) What's wrong with Leica? Don't they understand the meaning and importance of a Quality Check?
IWC Doppel Posted August 15, 2016 Share #8 Posted August 15, 2016 What f stop were the pictures taken at ? My Mk IV does not exhibit that strange very hard corner effect at all, so I do fear it's back to Leica
adli Posted August 15, 2016 Author Share #9 Posted August 15, 2016 Same behavior without hood. It is already on its way. Thanks guys.
Stein K S Posted August 15, 2016 Share #10 Posted August 15, 2016 (edited) Send it in! I have the same lens. And while a lot can be said about this lens wide open ;-), this vignetting is just not right in my opinion. And the vignetting being so uneven in addition is just anoying! Must say though, that this little thing is just great at f4/5,6! Regards, Stein Kjetil Edited August 15, 2016 by Stein K S
