Advertisement Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Hi ora8, Take a look here 50mm 1.4. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

Bill Livingston Posted August 9, 2016 Share #3 Posted August 9, 2016 Maybe not... seems a very new member. Summilux 50mm 1.4 Asph The faster 1.4's are all referred to as Summilux with a possible exception of one or two, but I'm not an expert in very early or obscure Leica nomenclature so other will be better placed to confirm this - or point out it is yet another of those false memories I seem to be acquiring of late - just ask my wife!). Unless you are kidding or course... in which case, I fell for it!
dpitt Posted August 9, 2016 Share #4 Posted August 9, 2016 (edited) Each lens has its virtues. All Summiluxes are good. IMO there is no lens that is the best in all three area's. Ken Rockwells info is a good starting point. http://www.kenrockwell.com/leica/lens-reviews.htm#50 Then try them for yourself and choose the one that pleases you, and fits your budget... microview Posted August 9, 2016 Share #5 Posted August 9, 2016 The earlier preASPH may be preferred for its rendering. I'd also suggest not being tempted by the silver (chrome on brass) finish Summilux as the weight addition is considerable over the black. I believe the black chrome ASPH limited edition was also at the heavier weight.
Steve Ricoh Posted August 9, 2016 Share #6 Posted August 9, 2016 I'm certainly no expert, but the more modern versions seem to work best on digital M's if you enjoy pixel-peeping.

Leica Summilux M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH. Given the parameters you establish, it is your best and only choice.

FlashGordonPhotography Posted August 10, 2016 Share #12 Posted August 10, 2016 I know it's blasphemy around here but I'm thinking of selling my Summilux and keeping the Voigtlander 50mm 1.5 Nokton I have. I'm just not seeing the 4 grand improvement of the 'lux over the CV and in some cases I prefer the rendering of the CV. I also think the CV might be a bit more consistent across the frame. And yes I have tried more than 1 copy of the Summilux. And I've put 5000 shots through the one I own. So you can send me to the gallows but my vote is for the CV 50mm 1.5 Nokton M. pedaes Posted August 10, 2016 Share #13 Posted August 10, 2016 Interesting table, and if accurate shows the cost of small improvements at the top end. For a 2% overall gain with the APO Summicron over Summilux ASPH you pay 100% more, and get a stop less.

spydrxx Posted August 12, 2016 Share #17 Posted August 12, 2016 Of course non-Leica lenses are an option, but you asked for "the best" in your original post. I currently use a combo of Leica & non-Leica lenses in the 50mm category, but IMHO there is no "best" for all purposes, each has its own uniqueness and characteristics. For years I lusted after a Noctilux, the holy grail of Leica lenses; after working thru 2 versions, I found that the size and weight factors just didn't fit with my style, and I could cash them in, get a Summicron & Summilux and still have cash in the pocket. So, you pays your money and takes your choice.

Gordon Hmm...interesting perspective here. Is your Lux the current ASPH? I own one but I'm always open to value-for-money options. Which is probably why I briefly owned a CV Nokton 1.1...interesting lens but not for me.
ECohen Posted August 12, 2016 Share #19 Posted August 12, 2016 (edited) I see non Leica lenses are no option. Why do you say this? Of course non Leica lenses are a fine option. "It should be sharp, have good contrast and beatiful bokeh." You need to better define what your looking for......dont you think? Zeiss and Voigtlander make nice lenses too. You don't really say ....Do you have a camera yet? What lenses do you currently have? Do you shoot B&W ? Words like best and beautiful are in the eye of the beholder. What kinds of photographs will you making.......What have you been shooting with? Give us a starting point for "beautiful".....and "best" It sounds like in your case you have too many choices........pick one. or just get the Leica Summilux M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH.......its one of the best Edited August 12, 2016 by ECohen
ora8 Posted August 13, 2016 Author Share #20 Posted August 13, 2016 I would like to make picture of people. I have the summicron. I personally would prefer the Zeiss sonnar. But it has an older style. I like 50mm. Or shall I use anohter focul lenght? I don't know what I shall do.
