A stack is the 'sticky up bit' left in the sea when an arch collapses, part of the relentless process of coastal erosion. 

 

Growing up in Southern England, we didn't get Geography exercises on exciting things like Volcanoes, Geysers, Glaciers etc, we got stacks, lots of stacks! maybe some longshore drift too zzzz :D

Looks like these ones left the shore behind a long long time ago, nicely captured through the fog.
