mikemgb Posted August 4, 2016 Share #1 Posted August 4, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Leica IIIa, 50mm Summar, all my photos are showing the horizontal banding you can see on this image. I'm at a loss to know what would cause this particular pattern. I know the shutter curtains need replacing, they leak, but could the curtains also be causing this? Welcome, dear visitor! TomB_tx Posted August 4, 2016 Share #2 Posted August 4, 2016 I assume you mean the many fine darker lines aligned with the long axis of the frame. This is typical of "fuzzy" edges of the shutter curtains that form the narrow slit that traverses the frame at high shutter speeds. The slit is very narrow at highest speeds, and such irregularities on the edges are like a saw tooth - reducing exposure where they stick out. Shots taken at lower speeds shouldn't show them.
mikemgb Posted August 4, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted August 4, 2016 Thank you Tom! Looking at the curtains on this camera they are likely the original, in very poor shape, I shall replace those and clean everything up and try a get a nice clean edge on them.
