Cutting film for OLEYO

Does anyone know how people used to cut the right length of film to use with the single exposure device OLEYO? Was there any template, or since the film was orthochromatic you cut it under a red light, so you could see when the length was correct?

If you know the correct length, you can easily make a template from a length of smooth, flat wood and two panel pins. Hook the film over the left hand pin and unroll the film until a perforation can be fitted over the second pin. Next and final step cut the film to length. This method can also be used to cut bulk film for cassettes.
