Sudden M7 Failure - Fresh Batteries Don't Help

Recommended Posts

Greetings!

Without advance warning my M7 decided to stop working.  The camera works in the manual shutter speeds (1/125 and 1/60) but anything electronic is kaput.  Fresh batteries (CR1/3N) changes nothing.  Wondering if this kind of failure has only one remedy...send the camera to Leica?

Any thoughts?

With thanks!

Michael

Depends on where you are. There are many very competent techys for Leica's round the world.

You do need to sent the camera to one of them, or back to Leica.

Since you are in the USA, contact DAG or Sherry Krouter, to name just two. (google them)

Michael which battery brand ?

Contacts inside clean or oxidized ?
Take a cotton swab for ears and clean
Camera not used for a long time ?

Do check the voltage . A battery may discharge faster if you do not turn off the camera.
I'll buy two new batteries and try again before sending to customer service as suggested Erl.

I saw that you can have fake battery. I bought mine (Varta-made in Japan) in a Leica Center.

Best

If you decide to try Sherry, do call instead of emailing.  She often does not respond to emails but will answer the phone (usually on the first ring in my experience).  Be prepared to listen to her stories -- don't be in a rush.  She's a real character.  Some people find that annoying, but I actually enjoy having her tell me about Leica world from her (unique) perspective.

All great suggestions. Let me add my two cents. These may seem redundant but..  Be sure to use new quality batteries. Be sure they are oriented in the correct position! Look inside the battery compartment and make sure the contacts are clean and are not flattened in other words have a spring back when batteries are inserted. I hope you can fix this without having to send it in.
