Exicited! Got my original M2 back!

It is not my original M2, but of the same year which suits my old lenses, and I am very grateful! A 1958 button rewind M2 in immaculate condition. Amazing! The tiny 3.5cm Summaron F/3.5 M-mount is exciting again. The 5cm Elmar f/2.8 M-mount - I dunno yet. First on the M9, then on film.

Any observations from the group?

If I was to buy an M2 it would be a 1958 button rewind model - but I doubt I'd want an immaculate one as I'd be too worried about being the person to reduce its condition! Sounds like a good set-up. Having owned 5cm Elmars in M mount I doubt that you will be displeased with it - even if it isn't quite up to the esoteric 'quality' standards being set today. Never owned a Summaron but reading here suggests many fans.

I also have an early button M2. It was near mint when I got it, had it serviced and I just use it like any other camera. I had an M3 once and didn't 'connect' with it, but the M2 is like second nature to me. I think I found the thick and curved framelines on the M3 off putting.

As for the 50 2.8 Elmar, it's a very fine lens but not quite as good at wider apertures as the f3.5 Elmar Red Scale (or later M version which is the same optically). From 5.6 they're the same though.

Excited enough to create a new word, Pico. From now on, "Exicited" will be the word I use when the feeling is beyond the bounds of normal excitement.

It is great to reawaken old pleasures, Pico - Like meeting with an old friend.

Well, it's a lever rewind from 1962 and the Summaron is LTM with a real Leitz adapter but it sure is tiny.  One of my favorite combinations.

My first film M was also a 1958 button rewind M2. I really enjoyed that camera and its perfect frame-lines. I still actually regret selling it, but at the time I was wanting to shoot on newer M bodies. Kind of a foolish decision, but such is life.

Glad you got one to make you happy :)
