sprice Posted July 24, 2016 Share #1 Posted July 24, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I just received my M-D last week and the battery drain is incredible. Went through 2 batteries over the w/e taking a total of about 100 pictures. Anyone else have this issue and/or suggest a solution?
Advertisement Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 Hi sprice, Take a look here Battery Drain on Brand New M-D. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted July 25, 2016 Share #2 Posted July 25, 2016 Well, how do you use it? If you never switch off any camera will go through batteries fairly quickly. Consider also that new batteries will need to be cycled three to five times to reach full capacity.
sprice Posted July 25, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted July 25, 2016 I use it like I used M and like I use my Monocrom, both of which don't have these issues. Would last for weeks. Moreover, two of the batteries are from my Monocrom, which have been recycled several times.
jcraf Posted July 25, 2016 Share #4 Posted July 25, 2016 Hello, I just received my M-D last week and the battery drain is incredible. Went through 2 batteries over the w/e taking a total of about 100 pictures. Anyone else have this issue and/or suggest a solution? Does your M-D have the latest firmware? When first launched the M-D would not go into sleep mode and lots of owners who forgot to switch off the camera found the battery flat. The latest firmware (1.0.0.4) addresses that issue, and even if the camera is not switched off at the main switch, if the camera is not used the FW will send it into sleep mode in about 10 mins. A tap on the shutter button will wake it. Apologies if you knew that already, or if your M-D has the latest FW.
ramarren Posted July 25, 2016 Share #5 Posted July 25, 2016 My M-D was delivered with the firmware update installed. I stuck my second battery for the M-P in it (haven't opened the M-D battery at all yet) without recharging it. It registered 90% capacity in the M-D readout. I made about 300 exposures with it before it was down to 20%, then charged it, and have since made another 50 exposures. The readout now says 90% again. I turn the camera on when I go for a shooting session and turn it off when I put the camera away. That's it. There is much else to do with the camera other than make photographs, so I don't fuss or fiddle with knobs or controls, and don't hold it to my eye looking at the readouts very often. Remember also that these cameras have an accumulator (big capacitor) in them to hold the settings and power the internal clock that charges up from the main battery over the first days of having a charged battery put into them. This costs some battery life for the first two/three cycles of the main battery. If you're not getting the kind of battery life I am, either you don't have the firmware update installed and thus have the original firmware, which didn't allow auto-power down with the main switch on, or something else is going on. If you have the firmware update installed and continue to see such poor performance, I'd have Leica test the camera as it might have a fault. sprice Posted July 25, 2016 Author Share #6 Posted July 25, 2016 I will check the firmware when I get home. I assumed it was up-to-date since I just received the camera, but I now remember what they say about people who assume.
kkonkkrete Posted July 26, 2016 Share #7 Posted July 26, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm still on my first charge from over three weeks ago! I've taken several hundred shots, and I'm still at 10% battery. So this is almost certainly the old firmware.
Renata Posted July 29, 2016 Share #8 Posted July 29, 2016 Hello, I just received my M-D last week and the battery drain is incredible. Went through 2 batteries over the w/e taking a total of about 100 pictures. Anyone else have this issue and/or suggest a solution? I had the same problem with my M240. Resetting the camera to factory settings did the trick for me.
Rob L Posted November 11, 2016 Share #9 Posted November 11, 2016 I just got a new M-D 262. How do you check firmware version? I'm guessing you can't. Mine was manufactured in May 2016 ( I'm guessing that at this point all of them were from the same batch, but I don't know). I tried to install the new firmware and the "up" message went out after maybe 4 seconds. I'm guessing that I'm on the latest version already or this update had so little to it that it only took 4 seconds? Also mine behaves very strangely on ISO 800 (only 800); If on Auto (aperture preferred) the display will flicker and the shutter speed shown will be way too high. On manual it will show the left arrow indicating to stop down by like 6 stops. The photos I took on "Auto" were exposed correctly despite what the display was indicating. If I set the ISO one click (1/3 stop) either side of 800, everything is fine. My initial thought was that the contacts in the ISO control were dirty, but the fact that the exposure was good tell me that is likely not the case. Any thoughts on this. I am not happy about the prospect of sending it in for this issue.
