Steve Ricoh Posted July 24, 2016 Share #1 Posted July 24, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have no appetite to lease sw, and I'm on the look out for a copy of CS3 or 4 with a fully transferable licence. An educational licence is not an option since Adobe won't allow transfer. Also, I'm not too keen on eBay due to the shark infested territory, so where else should I look other than placing an advert. Any ideas?
Advertisement Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 Hi Steve Ricoh, Take a look here CS 3 or 4 looking for advice to purchase. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted July 24, 2016 Share #2 Posted July 24, 2016 I'm not sure that all new raw files are supported, noise reduction is nowhere near newer versions, many features missing. If you don't want CC go for 6. Or buy Elements 14. At least that is up to date.
Steve Ricoh Posted July 24, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted July 24, 2016 Right thanks Jaap. Current set up is LR6 for RAW development, plus Elements 14 as required, but obviously a lot missing compared to PS. I'll expand the search to include CS 6. Thanks. jaapv Posted July 24, 2016 Share #4 Posted July 24, 2016 CS3 and CS4 would not be competitive to the software you are using now. I share you distaste for the basic idea of PS CC, but still I went for a special offer, and I must admit that less than 10 Euro a month works out cheaper than I paid for the frequent upgrades, especially as it includes LR CC.
Exodies Posted July 25, 2016 Share #5 Posted July 25, 2016 +1 for CC. So much more convenient having incremental upgrades. Except when they break something but that's always a risk with software.
zeitz Posted July 25, 2016 Share #6 Posted July 25, 2016 You didn't say if you use Mac or Windows. If Windows, it won't be long and you'll be paying $7 per month for Windows 10. Already planned for business users; can't be long before home users are also included.
jaapv Posted July 25, 2016 Share #7 Posted July 25, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Anyway, if I had Lightroom 6 and Elements 14 I would probably be looking at Capture One as a second editing system, not specifically Photoshop. Photoshop is more, certainly, but basically more of the same.
Luke_Miller Posted July 25, 2016 Share #8 Posted July 25, 2016 Anyway, if I had Lightroom 6 and Elements 14 I would probably be looking at Capture One as a second editing system, not specifically Photoshop. Photoshop is more, certainly, but basically more of the same. I have always found it useful to have a second raw processing application. Sometimes my primary processor just doesn't produce the desired result on a particular image. That happens less frequently now as the applications have improved over time. ACR/Photoshop don't qualify as a second raw processor to Lightroom since the underlying algorithms are the same. Instead I've been using Capture One for those images that don't seem to "work" in Lightroom. I've always preferred the colors C1 produced, but found Lightroom a bit easier to use. Nowadays I use C1 more often as my installation of Lighroom has gotten progressively slower as image sizes have increased. C1 performance is much faster and seems relatively unaffected by the size of the files.

Steve Ricoh Posted July 25, 2016 Author Share #10 Posted July 25, 2016 Ok, thanks guys, I'll do some further 'research'. It's layers that attracts me to PS to enable me to do the things that only layers can.
jaapv Posted July 25, 2016 Share #11 Posted July 25, 2016 But Steve, you have layers in PS Elements.
Steve Ricoh Posted July 25, 2016 Author Share #12 Posted July 25, 2016 But Steve, you have layers in PS Elements. But less control, surely, unless I'm missing something?
jaapv Posted July 28, 2016 Share #13 Posted July 28, 2016 Yes, but how often are you going to use blending masks or split the sliders?
Bill Clark Posted October 22, 2016 Share #14 Posted October 22, 2016 (edited) I use CS-4 and it fulfills my desires. I do use attachments by On-One and like the results. On-One has software available that may interest you. Thought I'd mention it. I believe some of it is a stand alone package. pico Posted October 22, 2016 Share #16 Posted October 22, 2016 (edited) Aside: Would someone tell me the significant difference between, for example Photoshop 5.1 2 (according to OS X finder) which is a stand-alone and the (to me) obscure CS versions? This is my version: Edited October 22, 2016 by pico

You would gain at least one ISO value of sensitivity.
terrycym Posted November 1, 2016 Share #18 Posted November 1, 2016 The Adobe CS2 suite can be downloaded for free and Adobe have provided the serial numbers. Their licence server broke and they couldn't be bothered fixing it so they're giving it way now. http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/download-install-adobe-photoshop-cs2-free-legally-windows-mac-1445595
