fotografr Posted July 22, 2016 Share #1 Posted July 22, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) We had one of the most intense thunderstorms roll through our area tonight that I've ever been in. I probably shouldn't have been out photographing this, but it was such a spectacular show I couldn't resist. Q Welcome, dear visitor! war Posted July 22, 2016 Share #4 Posted July 22, 2016 Glad you went out for this great shot. I might go out on a night like that but I wouldn't take my Q. The lights across the bottom finish it off perfectly. Like Stuart, like to know how, Exif?
fotografr Posted July 23, 2016 Author Share #5 Posted July 23, 2016 Thanks much for the comments. There was so much lightning I didn't actually have a very hard time catching a couple. Some people do this by using a "lightning trigger" that trips the shutter when the flash appears. I shot this hand held without the trigger. The one trick was that since lightning can make the sky flash so brightly, I set the Q to underexpose by 3 full stops. Otherwise these bolts would have made night look like mid-afternoon. Here's one other that I caught where smaller bolts came out of a huge one. It literally shook the ground. Today I gave a print of this to my neighbor whose house is visible with the light on. He loved it because he and his wife were standing on their patio watching the storm when this one cracked. Welcome, dear visitor! Iduna Posted July 25, 2016 Share #6 Posted July 25, 2016 Brent, fantstic captures! The fitrst shots shows agreat powerful lightning and there I like those dark humanmade lights perching and hopefully make a shaltered home. The second picture shows a dramatic light on the sea and makes a very cinematic effect. Great stuff!
