Paulus Posted July 19, 2016 Share #1 Posted July 19, 2016 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm a little bit short on cash at the moment, but it would be nice to complete my collection of great lenses with the new 50mm apo silver. Of course it's better than the black one. The mechanical parts last longer in the messing/chrome lenses so I was told. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-aktuell/2016/07/leica-apo-summicron-m-1250mm-in-silber/?utm_source=20160719de&utm_medium=E-Mail Sorry, I forgot to mention " please ". otho Posted July 19, 2016 Share #4 Posted July 19, 2016 (edited) BTW, some rumors about new Cine M Lux: http://leicarumors.com/2016/07/18/leica-rumored-to-announce-a-new-line-of-m-cinema-lenses.aspx/ Hard to believe... It does look gorgeous. I think the wear issue you refer to was for the chrome on brass lenses (a la the chrome Summilux). This is an anodised finish on same alloy as black lens so should hold no advantage - except its silver!
Paulus Posted July 19, 2016 Author Share #6 Posted July 19, 2016 It does look gorgeous. I think the wear issue you refer to was for the chrome on brass lenses (a la the chrome Summilux). This is an anodised finish on same alloy as black lens so should hold no advantage - except its silver! So you don't think it will last as long as my 20 year old chrome lens? No match with my chrome M bodies? Why don't they make this one in chrome + brass ( messing ) . It does strike me an odd thing. Why go for absolute quality in the lensdesign and not take the step to the same quality in the mechanical design?
lct Posted July 19, 2016 Share #7 Posted July 19, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Chrome and brass are heavier and not necessarily the best technical solution for special lenses like the 50/2 apo. Don't ask me why, just a guess...
Exodies Posted July 20, 2016 Share #8 Posted July 20, 2016 This is a cruel move by Leica. I have a silver M 240 but all my lenses (21, 35, 50, 90) are black. I have been yearning to swan around with a silver lens but haven't managed to develop enough GAS for another focal length. What do you think the cost of swapping a black Apo Summicron for a silver one will be?

enboe Posted July 20, 2016 Share #10 Posted July 20, 2016 Pretty for sure, but I'm currently enamored with my M-D, which fortunately matched the black 50 APO in the stable. Now if they come out with a silver M-D, or a-la-carte upgrade to the same, then I'm in trouble.
IWC Doppel Posted July 21, 2016 Share #11 Posted July 21, 2016 I think Leica should provide a reseller market. Plus finance. We have moved as a nation to accepting this in the car market and it makes a great deal of sense, encouraging PX and a greater level of sales plus extended warranties etc All my kit after selling 7 lenses is still worth over £40k and I'm just a hobbyist. That's car money in any bodies terms. Those wanting to take advantage of the latest model variants could more easily do so
IWC Doppel Posted July 21, 2016 Share #12 Posted July 21, 2016 PS most £50k car owners wouldn't be without the financing currently available. Digital bodies would fit well with the leading model for cars

IWC Doppel Posted July 21, 2016 Share #16 Posted July 21, 2016 Nothing special, a diesel BMW, my first diesel after having an M3 stolen. The only thing I really like is the Mpg

pedaes Posted July 21, 2016 Share #18 Posted July 21, 2016 According to one UK Dealer's price list, the Silver version will carry a premium of £210, which compares with £200 for a Silver Noctilux and £150 for Silver 35mm Summilux.
