Hi guys - I am new to the forum but not to photography :)

I would kindly ask you help with the following. I have been offered a mint/new 90mm f2.0 Summicron with box, caps and original Leica warranty card. There are some things that I cannot piece together from the photo's and based on my research...

The serial number on the warranty card shows 281xxxx meaning that it should be a serie II lens from 1976. This serial number is not on the front to the lens by the way. The lens seems to take 49mm filters and the maximum aperture is 16, not 22 as with the serie II lenses. Please see photos attached.

So I am confused! It looks like a serie III (1980-1998) lens, but the serial is from 1963-1980 ?

Thanks for your help - it is much appreciated. If you have an idea about the value, please let me know also

Kind regards

Dick

This is the first type of 2/90mm Summicron-M III with E49 from first year of production:

Wiki can confirm,

Summicron 90 281xxxx with box ? A twin of my one ;) (curios to see if your s/n is close to mine....)

Everything ok... as Steve said , they belong to the first run with that "wrongly" engineered hood which covers the f stop ring when retracted.

serial number is on side, as normal for those and several other lenses of the era.
