hockey44 Posted July 14, 2016 Share #1 Posted July 14, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I have M240 with lux35 (FLE) and lux50 but struggling with sharp focus on 50mm. At infinity I seem to have to back off focus slightly to be tack sharp. When I use the EVF with focus peeking (with Lux50) it appears that focus is "on". Does this sound like a RF focus issue? What makes no sense to me is that I am able to (I think) focus the Lux35 without the EVF which is odd. Time for a visit to the Lecia shop? Previously I had found the 50mm 'easier' to focus than the 35mm so I am confused. I really don't like to use the EVF and have 20/20 eyesight unless for extreme fine details (like flowers etc.) Welcome any suggestions as I have some opportunities to take advantage while traveling in Denmark next couple of weeks. Thanks
Advertisement Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 Hi hockey44, Take a look here Lux50 focus question. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ralphh Posted July 14, 2016 Share #2 Posted July 14, 2016 Could be the lens is off. I have a 90mm that front focuses quite a bit while my others are all absolutely spot on. Seems it's not cheap to have Leica adjust a lens unless it's new and under warranty. If you bought it second hand you might be better off looking for an independent services. hoppyman Posted July 14, 2016 Share #3 Posted July 14, 2016 Hi. Did you mean that when you focus with the rangefinder you get a different result than using the EVF? It would be worth some careful testing to compare the RF and EVF result ( at unchanged aperture setting too). Personally I never found the focus peaking to be as precise as the RF, but good for undemanding situations if you wanted it. The EVF of course is showing you what actually arrives at the sensor. This was a feature I had not considered when I got my M.
jaapv Posted July 14, 2016 Share #4 Posted July 14, 2016 It is not uncommon for a Summilux 50 asph to misfocus. If you have no problems with your Summilux 35, it is not unlikely that your 50 needs a trip to Wetzlar. In general, the shorter the focal length, the easier to hit focus ( it is actually more precise to say that DOF will cover the error), although this may be offset to a certain extent by lens-specific factors like focus throw and smoothness. oktaviant Posted July 18, 2016 Share #5 Posted July 18, 2016 My 50 lux asph went to the Leica Service three times with that exact issue and they failed to manage it. Still the Point of Focus is slightly behind the mark (in close distances). Thorsten Overgaard told me about a screw on the Lens to be adjusted (but i didn`t understand what he meant..). Anyway-I`m going to sell it.
spydrxx Posted July 18, 2016 Share #6 Posted July 18, 2016 If you're in the USA, consider sending it to DAG, adjustments of this sort are routine for him.
oktaviant Posted July 23, 2016 Share #7 Posted July 23, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I made a last appointment with the CS in Wetzlar for the next week. The Person who is going to investigate the case is said to be the Specialist for M issues. Let's see. Thought over and over: i really like this lens and would like to keep it. And no: having an eye on the political situation- i'm fortunatly living in Germany[emoji3] Gesendet von iPhone mit Tapatalk
