Advertisement Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 Hi leica1215, Take a look here Leica UV filter made in Japan ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
duckrider Posted July 12, 2016 Share #2 Posted July 12, 2016 Can't imagine that Leica did produce own filters in the last decades at all, they closed their glasslab long ago. Perhaps they were bought from B&W / Schneider Kreuznach. Might be they buy from Hoya in these days, a highly regarded name in filters: http://www.hoyafilter.com/hoya/products/coloredfilters/ But that's only my guess. terrycym Posted July 12, 2016 Share #3 Posted July 12, 2016 No 39mm filter listed there.
jaapv Posted July 12, 2016 Share #4 Posted July 12, 2016 According to Leica explicitly not Hoya. Normally they are supplied by B&W, but the UV/IR filters most likely are made by Marumi.
250swb Posted July 12, 2016 Share #5 Posted July 12, 2016 As others have said, Leica have never made their own filters, so sourcing could come from any good company.
tobey bilek Posted July 12, 2016 Share #6 Posted July 12, 2016 I saw a recently acquired B+W UV/IR cut filter . None of my older B+W ones have the cut designation. The font is smaller and precise and really nice instead of the blocky German letters. It seems to do a good job on 24 3.8 on M8 for the owner. FWIW, I only have one Leica filter for the M8, 60 mm and it is plastic, not glass. I would not want this for a daily used lens, but 21 pre ash is not a big user for me. 24 3.8 is a winner. Herr Barnack Posted August 10, 2016 Share #7 Posted August 10, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would imagine that whatever Japanese company Leica has chosen to make their UV filters is sufficiently OCD to meet Leica's standards.
