iPad Software versus DNG... JPG only?

I'm hoping someday we will get a firmware update to allow DNG only -- but for now, if I don't have a Mac handy, I must use an iPad and it looks like I'm stuck with jpeg until I get home.  Any ideas?

To my knowledge, either you use the Leica app via wifi, and then you only can download jpegs, or you plug the leica on usb (via an on-the-go cable if on a tablet) and then you access every file on the Leica.

I for one regularly use Photo Mate on Androids (phone and tablet) with an OTG cable to process the DNGs.

I feel besides PhotoMate there are quite few apps that can open DNGs on tablets in fact; on Android IMHO only PhotoMate can do serious editing (ie color curves adjustments etc.)

Now, some have expressed aggressively this kind of processing on tablets is not proper by lack of a calibrated screen, but I definitely disagree as (1) PhotoMate indeed proposes calibration settings, and (2) in any case, most of the pictures we all process are bound to be viewed on a range of screens, most of which are poorly calibrated too...

Lightroom Mobile supports 'dng' files if you can get the files from card to iPad.

It's a useful program.

actually i think it is photoshop mobile  and not lightroom mobile that supports the Q's DNG files....

I can't comment on 'Q' files but LR mobile certainly handles my M240 'dng' files.

I was wrong -you are right. I checked last night and I remembered I like the ps mobile app better than the Lr mobile app.  My apologies for the misinformation.

My M and SL cameras (along with other brands of various cameras) allow me to capture with raw only. The workflow that works for all of them using an iPad:

- move raw (DNG or native format) files from SD card to the iPad with the Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader

- use PhotoRAW app to import, adjust, and convert raw files to TIFF or JPEG format

- use Photos, Photogene, SnapSeed, or any of a half dozen other apps to finalize image rendering of JPEG or TIFF files

- use Keynote or iMovie to create photo presentations

- when i've returned home, move all raw and other JPEG, TIFF, .key, etc., files to my desktop macOS system with Image Capture and then import the photos into Lightroom

I use the Leica SL app for when I want wirelessly tethered remote operation of my SL. I set the SL to capture JPEG+raw when I'm using it that way so that I can use the above image processing workflow with raw files. Often time, however, the JPEGs are perfectly usable and only take a light editing pass to produce the final results.
