Setting M9 to shoot b&w

I understand from a review of the M9 that it is possible to set the jpegs to b&w. Can somebody please tell me how to do this, and is it then possible to shoot DNG + Jpeg b&w/

Thanks

Gerry

Yes, you can do this in JPG or DNG+JPG mode. Simply set the saturation to monochrome/black and white/vintage.

I wasn't too impressed with colour JPEGs but in black and white I was much happier.

Thank you Daryl and Greg. I am not a great fan of using external press but I do on occasions, and I have a number already. I did find the Overgaard article interesting though, but then he is usually good to read.

I always have used B&W images in fine jpg plus raw and like the ability to see whether the image works better in colour or B&W. I built a profile in Lightroom for the jpg so if I choose to use I have a slightly better start.

I like the conversion and use quite often even though you can see the raw is better

I also like the quick display on the back which I set to histogram and a quick tilt will inform me how much is under and it or over exposed and I can quickly adjust in difficult lifting without needing to chimp.

Thank you for your comments. The weather is so bad here that I have not ventured out yet to try b&w jpegs yet, but I will bear your comments in mind once I do.

I realize this is a late post.  But, if you're using Lightroom and not immediately posting to the internet, I'm not sure why you would use JPEG. Just shoot RAW and convert in Lightroom.  The files are great and extremely malleable. The B&W conversions are terrific, once you find a post process that pleases you.
