FlashGordonPhotography Posted June 26, 2016 Share #1 Posted June 26, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone found any Lightroom profits for the SL, either free or commercially available? I'm not particularly keen on the Lightroom or embedded profile for my camera. I've made a basic one from a color checker but I'd be interested in seeing what else is available. Colin at Huelight makes nice generic profiles but doesn't have one for the SL. So I'm on the hunt. A quick Google search didn't find much. Thanks Gordon

Peter Walker Posted June 27, 2016 Share #2 Posted June 27, 2016 Is there a specific issue with the standard LR profile that you are trying to improve upon? Could you solve the issue with a Development preset that you apply automatically during Import? jrp Posted June 27, 2016 Share #3 Posted June 27, 2016 I built myself a profile using DCamProf, but find the canned Adobe Standard profile very similar, other than for v saturated blues / oranges. (The tone curve is slightly less constrasty.) You can try it from here https://www.dropbox.com/s/uc3kjnhdmoph5fj/naturalV3%2B.dcp?dl=0 It is for daylight use only.

The tone curve is muddy. I can get close to what I want with some work but having experimented with other cameras that have profiles available to download I thought I'd see if there were any for the SL around. When I found a bunch for my 645Z I was amazed at how much better I liked the files and I usually use Huelight profiles for my M which gives really nice skin tones out of the gate. I'm going to build a simple dual illuminant profile this week and see how that goes. Regards Gordon
thighslapper Posted June 28, 2016 Share #6 Posted June 28, 2016 Lots of us used custom dual illuminant profiles when the M240 first appeared ....... but the final LR default after Leica had fixed the major white balance issues was so close to mine that I abandoned it. Leica's idea of the colour balance on the SL is off ..... but the current Adobe default looks fine 90% of the time ...... and the rest are WB issues in difficult conditions. I am not sure if the Adobe profile is produced using a range of intermediate illuminants and corrects at more points than just the dual one, but as the process is ultimately the same, one has to assume theirs is 'correct' when viewed on a perfectly calibrated monitor or printer. I suspect you are not going to find a lot of difference......
jrp Posted June 28, 2016 Share #7 Posted June 28, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) The DCP profile format uses only two white balance points to determine its corrections (and interpolates between them). (The profile will probably not work well with light of different spectral quality from daylight / tungsten.) Adobe makes all sorts of adjustments to super-saturated colours in its default profiles (eg, night lights). The Leica Embedded profile isn't really one. It just corrects white balance in a linear fashion, and lets the default Adobe profile-independent processing take over. Upshot: the Adobe Standard Profile is not bad, although digilloyd complains about cyan / green casts, which he doesn't like -- different from the muddy yellows complaint. enigma.wu Posted June 28, 2016 Share #8 Posted June 28, 2016 I highly recommend C1 for SL raw rendering. It is way better than LR to my eyes.
FlashGordonPhotography Posted June 29, 2016 Author Share #9 Posted June 29, 2016 I highly recommend C1 for SL raw rendering. It is way better than LR to my eyes. Capture One is better out of the gate. But I can get close with some tweaking and presets in Lightroom. C1 isn't as good a workflow tool. And when you process as many images as I do workflow is critical. Gordon

Chaemono Posted April 20, 2018 Share #12 Posted April 20, 2018 (edited) Colin has released updated profiles for the SL. Edited April 20, 2018 by Chaemono
zeitz Posted April 21, 2018 Share #13 Posted April 21, 2018 This topic comes up frequently. Making profiles with your camera and your lens is so easy with X-rite ColorChecker. It takes less time to make your own profile than to search the internet. Yes, the X-rite target card does cost money.
