M6 and the MP... swapping rewind handles?

I picked up a very cheap second hand M6 chrome body last week and am utterly delighted. It tight and in super condition, but having it has still not ceased by yearning for the MP, a body I had back in 2003, in fact the first Leica I purchased new.

I tried a .85 chrome body at RDC yesterday and was unimpressed. Perhaps because it was relatively speaking much newer than either of my M6s and therefore not worn in, but I did not find the rewind buttery smooth, although the rangefinder patch was very nice.

Being a 35mm shooter the .85 would be suitable for my needs, I don't wear glasses for shooting, but at £2500... I wasn't going to jump ship.

The rewind lever was on the other hand very nice and reminded me of the M3. Has anyone done this 'upgrade' on their M6? If so, from where did you source the parts and did you install it yourself? I'm tempted to invest in a set of push pilers, for the top case, in any event.

With thanks,

Are you talking about rewind knob or wind-on lever?

if it's the wind-on lever then that's a straight swap get the bits on eBay, if it the rewind knob then you need to change the whole top plate and all the internals which will cost about the price of a mp, just get a m2 just like an mp without a meter.

Wind on lever. The film advance lever. I'll check eBay.

I bought a set of those spanners, my M6 V/F was dusty inside, and not overly clean, and it drove me nuts.

Online video or two to show how to lift the top-plate off, and it was done.

Bought the spanners from the bay, but the seller is not listing any at the moment.

Try this:  http://www.ebay.com/sch/sis.html?_nkw=Steel+Spanner+Wrench+Clamp+Tool+Repair+For+Lens+Leica+M2+M3+M4+M5+M6+M7+MP&_id=181485563528&&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2658
