christoph_d Posted June 21, 2016 Share #1 Posted June 21, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) As the winner of the last round (The Gap of Time / Die Kluft der Zeit) it is my great pleasure to set the theme for the next Barnack Challenge. So for the Barnack Challenge #30 I have chosen the theme "Autoportrait" The dates are: Taking pictures: June 25th to July 10th Posting pictures: July11th to July 24th Voting: July 25th to August 7th Good luck! Regards, Christoph As a reminder here the rules: The Barnack Challenge runs four times a year. It is open to all Leica User Forum members. In order to participate you must shoot a roll of film in line with a predefined theme within a defined period using a Screwmount or early fixed-lens Leica. You may use any lens, regardless of age or manufacturer, as long as it is LTM. Select your shot that in your view best matches the theme and post it onto a single thread set up for the purpose by the organiser in the Barnack Challenge Sub Forum. Post-processing of your image should be kept to a minimum - nothing that couldn't be done in a wet darkroom fifty years ago. You may post your image any size within forum rules. The thread will be open for postings but NOT for voting to allow all entries to be posted before voting starts. Your entries are not anonymous; feel free to post camera, lens and film details. Voting will then be opened. Votes may then be cast on the following basis: Three points for best, two points for second and one point for third. Voting runs for two weeks. One vote per member, no voting for your own image. The winner gets the right to set the theme for the next Barnack Challenge.

erl Posted June 25, 2016 Share #7 Posted June 25, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Finally, ideas surged and I have settled on my shot. The best part was the ergonomics of actually 'doing' it. Film processed. Scanning later today. Fire up guys, I am anxious to see your brilliance. farnz Posted July 8, 2016 Share #8 Posted July 8, 2016 I used a Leica IIIg copy (a Nicca) with a 50/3.5 Elmar believing at the time it that it was a legitimate combination but I now note that the rules stipulate that a screwmount Leica camera must be used so I regret that my picture will be ineligible so I shall not enter it. Pete.
erl Posted July 8, 2016 Share #9 Posted July 8, 2016 That's a shame Pete. Could you not re-shoot the pic with your real Leica? Your entries are always challenging and we need that. Otherwise, do a different pic. I know your up for it. Besides, you'll need the practice for Lisbon.
farnz Posted July 9, 2016 Share #10 Posted July 9, 2016 (edited) Unfortunately not, Erl, because it involved 9 other forum members and was shot in the Netherlands. I'm not sure whether I have the time to produce another but I'll certainly try. I was (wrongly) working under the assumption that it was the normal forum rules of a Leica camera or lens or both, albeit a screwmount camera for this challenge of course, but the rules say otherwise. Step One: read the rules. Step Two: refer to step one. Pete. Edited July 9, 2016 by farnz
christoph_d Posted July 9, 2016 Author Share #11 Posted July 9, 2016 Pete, At least you still have this weekend to try ... Good luck, particularly also with loading the film into the Barnack camera. (I understood that filmloading thing is the big advantage of your Nicca.) Best, Christoph
farnz Posted July 9, 2016 Share #12 Posted July 9, 2016 Christoph, Not so much an advantage as a convenience. In all other aspects it's exactly the same as a IIIg. If I can find the time this weekend I'll ask my IIIg to perform its magic. (For those who aren't familiar with the Nicca Series 5 it has a rear door that's similar to an M3's rear door. It looks, feels, and handles the same as a IIIg.) Pete.
erl Posted July 9, 2016 Share #13 Posted July 9, 2016 Pete, the day is young (at your end) so motivate the old timer (I refer to the camera! ) and stare into the lens. Simple. Done!
christoph_d Posted July 11, 2016 Author Share #14 Posted July 11, 2016 (edited) Dear all, Picture taking is now closed, however for those who have done so, there's the opportunity to upload the results in the "Upload your Pictures here" thread. Regards / Gruß Christoph Edited July 11, 2016 by christoph_d
erl Posted July 11, 2016 Share #15 Posted July 11, 2016 Thanks for progressing the Challenge Christoph. As a technically challenged person I am having trouble finding the upload thread. Can you supply a link to it, or describe where I may find it. Thanks.
